Florida woman gets into shootout with men allegedly trying to steal her prized pups

A gunfight erupted on Monday evening between a Florida dog breeder and a trio of alleged teenage dognappers which was caught on Ring video.

The trio who reportedly said they were interested in purchasing French bulldogs allegedly gained entry into the home in West Park, Fla., near Miami, under false pretenses by claiming they know a friend of the breeder. Sensing something wasn’t quite right, she phoned that friend to confirm, but by then it was too late, and she was being allegedly held at gunpoint.

“Seconds later, she says she was in a headlock with a gun to her head. ‘My heart and my adrenaline was through the roof. My stomach was in a knot. And when he had the gun to me, all I could think to myself was, ‘Lord, please, why now,'” NBC 6 South Florida reported.

“A tussle ensued, along with an exchange of gunfire, officials said. The victim said the three men ran out of the door with two of the puppies in-hand. As they were running, they began firing shots. All the homeowner could think was to grab her gun — and fire back.” the news outlet added. The suspects fled in a vehicle.

The owner said her main concern was in protecting her girlfriend and her home. “My biggest goal was to make sure she was okay, and we live to see tomorrow,” she asserted.

No one was harmed in the shootout, and authorities say the woman won’t be charged with any violation because she was engaging in self-defense. According to ABC Miami affiliate WPLG Local 10, a bullet just barely missed her head in the gun battle as she ducked behind her car.

Watch a report on the incident from WPLG which includes footage of the violent encounter:

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office says two 16-year-old suspects are in custody, but a third individual is still at large. They reportedly face charges of armed robbery with a firearm and shooting into an occupied dwelling.

Two French bulldogs or what some media outlets have alternatively identified as “micro bullies,” are also missing. Broward Detectives have asked the public’s help in locating the remaining suspect as well as the pups. A fourth man may also be involved as a getaway driver.

Crooks around the country have reportedly targeted the high-value French bulldogs, which sell for about $4,000 each.

You may recall that earlier this year, drive-by assailants shot Lady Gaga’s dogwalker multiple times in West Hollywood and fled the scene with the canines, which were later recovered.

Cops subsequently took five suspects into custody, three of whom were charged with attempted murder and robbery. All five pleaded guilty. The case is apparently still pending.

Although nobody knows for sure how they would react in a life-threatening situation, and it’s easy to second guess, some Twitter users have raised questions about the tactics used in this incident.
