Vet Rob Smith calls for Americans to fight: How to help GOP combat left’s freefall into authoritarianism

Iraq war veteran and political commentator Rob Smith told “The Next Revolution’s” Steve Hilton on Sunday that “classical liberals” need to speak out against the radical left’s attack on free speech and their descent into authoritarianism.

“Look, I said at the beginning, you’re a fighter. I think, you know, parents aren’t going to take this lying down. But it’s not just the parents. It’s this crushing of free speech, it’s this overreach. … What do you think we should do in terms of fighting back against this?” Hilton asked Smith.

“I think there’s a couple of things. I think, first of all, the only answer to people trying to suppress speech is more speech. So, I think there are a lot of people that really need to start speaking up about what they truly believe, no matter how unpopular it is,” Smith asserted.

“Now, you know my story about going from liberal to conservative a couple of years ago. I just had to speak my truth and I had to speak the reality of what is going on even though it is deeply unpopular. And I think that sometimes you have to challenge our friends on the left… the few classical liberals that still exist,” he continued.

“There are a lot of people on the left right now that know that there is something bad going on. They know that they are power-hungry. They know that this is literally authoritarianism that they are seeing, but they are so afraid of being unpopular, they’re so afraid of being kicked out of the club, they’re so afraid of being called racist or white supremacist or any of the leftist talking points that they stay silent while their party is being completely taken over by the radicals and that needs to stop. So, I think that we need to challenge them to speak up,” Smith emphatically stated.

“The second thing that I think people really need to do to start fighting back is, as conservatives, we do not run for school board elections. We are not, you know, in the teaching area,” he posited.

“We are not teaching on colleges and universities. The reason that the left has so effectively taken over all of these things… when you talk about the public schools, when you talk about the colleges and universities is because they have infiltrated these things over the past 20 or 30 years and conservatives and people that really believe in pro-America values, people that are really against all of the things that the radical left are trying to push into the educational system are not standing up and are not running to get the power on these school boards,” the conservative noted.

“They’re not running for local seats like city council. We’re not becoming college professors. We have pretty much ceded all of this ground to the left and we’re starting from so far behind that we really need to start taking ownership and taking up space in those organizations,” he asserted.

Hilton commented that this is also happening in the corporate world. He stated that the left is accusing the right of being fascist and authoritarian when they are actually the ones guilty of being those things and that they are the real threat, not former President Trump or conservatives.

“And that’s the nutty thing about what’s going on right now, Steve. And you have to realize that this is a complete diversion from what is going on,” Smith pointed out.

“You know, I look at some of the liberal stuff. I watch the other networks. I read all of this stuff because I like to know exactly what people are saying. And at this point, they are still obsessed with Donald Trump. They are still obsessed with Jan. 6. They are still obsessed with the idea that former President Trump or the people that supported him or voted for him, or whatever, is some sort of threat to democracy when the threat to actual democracy right now holds the White House, the Senate, and the Congress,” he remarked.

“And they are actively, as Miranda said, wielding their power in such an incredible way, it’s really something to behold. But they do not want people to realize the things that are going on and the things they are doing right now, so they’re creating this diversion. Trump will now and forever be their boogeyman when they do not want people to pay attention to things that are actually going on right under all of our noses,” Smith concluded.

Smith found a lot of agreement with his statements on social media:
