80’s bombshell Heather Locklear to make TV comeback with new look

Heather Locklear, the 1980s bombshell who starred in “Dynasty” and then “Melrose Place,” is making a comeback of sorts.

Starring in a new Lifetime movie produced by Meghan McCain, the former co-host of “The View,” the actress will be “shedding the sexy ’80s nymphet style that endured for decades,” the New York Post reported.

But then, at the age of 59, was there a choice? The paper ventured into questionable waters with the headline of an article on the comeback: “Heather Locklear looks very different in comeback role for Lifetime film.”

Locklear last appeared on TV in “Too Close to Home,” a series that ran from 2016 to 2017. In 2018, as the Post reported, she was hospitalized after an overdose, “followed by a rehab stint and her arrest for the alleged assault of an EMT worker called to her home during a domestic dispute.” The actress celebrated one year of sobriety in 2020.

For a refresher, the Twitter account Vintage Photos recently shared several photos of Locklear in her prime, including the following snapshots:

The Lifeline film, set to premiere on Oct. 16., is titled, “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff: The Kristine Carlson Story.”

The drama is based on the stirring book of the same name, co-authored by Kristine and her late husband, Dr. Richard Carlson. Selling over 15 million copies worldwide, the book spent more than 100 weeks on best-seller lists.

The storyline, according to IMDb, is that after sharing an amazing life, Kristine is knocked off balance when Richard passes away.

Locklear shared a photo on Instagram of herself and Kristine Carlson, along with the caption: “One of my new favorite people. Forever friends!”

In speaking with reporters Tuesday during Lifetime’s Fall Movies Press Day, Locklear talked about her fears of returning to television.

“The challenging part was it was so fearful to me,” she said, speaking of the emotion behind the film and about remembering her lines.

“I don’t know why I was so fearful of memorizing lines, how about getting emotion across,” she said, according to the Post.

One thing is certain, Locklear’s appearance today prompted plenty of debate on social media, with some insisting that the photo shown can’t be her.

Here’s a sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
