Afghan evacuees brought to military bases getting picked up by Uber; no oversight, says horrified Congressman

Afghan refugees being held at Fort Pickett near Blackstone, Virginia, have reportedly been granted “free rein” of the base and the right to come and go as they please, despite not having been fully vetted yet.

This allegation was made Wednesday by Tennessee Rep. Mark E. Green in a letter submitted to Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Citing an unnamed source, the Republican congressman claimed “several evacuees have been picked up by Uber drivers without any permission from authorities — or being cleared to leave.”

“The soldiers tasked with guarding these evacuees are unarmed and have no authority to arrest or stop any of them from simply leaving,” the congressman wrote.

He added that he’s also heard about “multiple incidents of sexual assault.”

Although the congressman zeroed in specifically on Fort Pickett in his letter, during an appearance later that evening on Fox News’s “The Ingraham Angle” he confirmed that this issue appears to be cropping up at other facilities as well.

“I’m talking to sources that are at multiple locations. … They’re letting them leave. They can catch an Uber and actually leave the base. They don’t know exactly how many are even there, so they can’t account for someone if they don’t return,” he said.

“And they’re telling the people, ‘Oh, if you go and you don’t come back, well, that will end your visa processing.’ But if they want free, they’re gone — there’s nobody keeping them from leaving. And then you get the shocking allegations of harassment and sexual assault, and it’s just it’s horrific,” he added.

Not that it would even matter if the Biden administration were keeping the refugees under tight control. The root problem, Green continued, is that the administration’s vetting system is — not surprisingly — an incompetently run mess.

“We don’t know who they are, we don’t have biometrics on a good portion of these people and we can’t really get information from State because they won’t provide names. They won’t provide any information on the people — the numbers,” he said.

The Biden administration has been uniquely obstinate and intransigent about sharing vital information with the public, particularly information concerning Afghanistan.

“They won’t even tell us how many American citizens they evacuated. We tried to get that number [and] requested it through the National Defense Authorization Act the other day, and I couldn’t get that passed. It’s just crazy. This State Department is a complete failure,” the congressman added.

What’s happening with the Afghan refugees closely mirrors what’s been happening with the illegal aliens who’ve been allowed to cross into the U.S. from the southern U.S. border and then been given free rein afterward without any meaningful vetting.

Even the way in which some Afghan refugees secured a spot on the plane ride to the U.S. is eerily the same, according to Fox News host Laura Ingraham.

“A lot of individuals, it was reported, were grabbing women and children and saying ‘oh, this is my wife,’ but we have no record to show that they actually are even related. Same thing happening at our southern border,” she said.

There’s even literal child trafficking reportedly occurring.

Last week the Associated Press drew attention to “numerous incidents in which Afghan girls have been presented to authorities as the ‘wives’ of much older men.”

The State Department, for its part, downplayed the report by suggesting the incidents were just “anecdotal.”

“The State Department had no immediate comment on the documents or the veracity of the details in them. Officials say that they take all such allegations seriously but that many of them are anecdotal and difficult to prove,” according to the AP.

Continuing his remarks on Fox News, Green further warned that some of these “much older men” may be terrorists, even members of the Taliban.

“We don’t have any documentation. … They can do DNA tests, but unfortunately these people are just being allowed to leave the containment areas. They can just get up in and walk out, and that’s from multiple sites — not just Pickett. And they’re not tracked; they’re not accounted for,” he said.

“We have no way of knowing who they are, and we’ve had talks with people who are saying they know Taliban is in some of these flights. So this is one of the greatest security risks this nation has ever had, and this president and state department don’t seem to care,” he added.

Indeed, the State Department has been busy lecturing the Taliban about the need for it to be more “inclusive.” Meanwhile, the president and vice president have been busy campaigning for California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who’s facing a recall election over his atrocious policies.
