Reports: Taliban now blocking U.S. citizens at checkpoints, Afghans being turned away at airport

With only days remaining until the deadline to evacuate Afghanistan, disturbing reports have emerged that the Taliban is blocking those seeking to leave the country including American citizens.

The Biden administration’s disastrous evacuation efforts were further complicated by a suicide bombing outside of Hamid Karzai International Airport on Thursday that claimed the lives of 170 people including 13 U.S service members, an attack that raised questions about the Taliban’s ability to ensure the security of Americans, an untold number of whom remain stranded in Kabul.

Now “our Afghan partners,” as some top military leaders including CENTCOM commander Gen. Frank McKenzie have affectionately referred to the Islamic extremists, are reportedly turning back some U.S. citizens from checkpoints as the August 31st deadline to leave the country rapidly approaches.

On Friday, CNN’s Jake Tapper tweeted, “Two private citizens involved in evacuation efforts tell me Talibs at the checkpoint near the Ministry of Interior are now turning away U.S. passport holders and Lawful Permanent Residents of U.S.,”

Tapper’s tweet seems to confirm reports from earlier in the week that the Taliban was indeed preventing Americans from getting to the evacuation zone, accounts that were denied by the State Department which claimed that they had chosen not to leave and drawing a harsh response from Senator Marco Rubio, who flat out called them lies.

Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger, a former military pilot who flew missions in Afghanistan, responded after Tapper’s report.

In addition to the troubling news on U.S. citizens being restrained from leaving, it is being reported that Afghan friendlies, who will almost certainly face repression and worse once America has completely withdrawn, are no longer being evacuated, another betrayal from the Biden administration.

On Wednesday, the day after President Biden refused to extend the deadline for evacuation,The Washington Post Editorial Board wrote “there may be only three or four days left for the gigantic airlift currently underway, because time must be left to fly out U.S. and other troops securing the airport themselves. Indeed, some troops have started leaving already.”

Now it appears that Americans will indeed be abandoned by Biden, a fact that even White House press secretary Jen Psaki was forced to admit.

It is not known whether the Taliban’s checkpoint treachery is related to the list of names of American citizens and Afghan allies that administration officials allegedly provided to the Taliban. The existence of the list, which was first reported by Politico, resulted in outrage with one unnamed defense official being quoted as saying, “basically, they just put all those Afghans on a kill list,” a shocking example of the incompetence of Biden’s whiz kids.

One thing is virtually certain, the potential for disaster increases as the clock ticks down, and the administration’s incredible ability to screw things up could have deadly consequences for those who will soon be left behind.
