Top House Dem: ‘Makes no sense whatsoever’ to try and rescue Americans outside of Kabul airport

It’s probably reasonably safe to assume that Americans who are stranded in Afghanistan as a result of the Biden administration’s epic incompetence should not expect to get any help from Democrats in Congress who remain indifferent to their plight.

With evacuation efforts ongoing at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, but plagued with problems stemming from Washington’s abysmal failure to plan the withdrawal, there is growing concern about those who remain stranded in the capital city that is now under the control of the Taliban and who have been unable to rely on a guarantee of safe passage to the airport.

One top Democrat who is in the position to do something, Rep. John Garamendi who serves as Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, was dismissive of the suggestion that the military could extract those who remain trapped in hostile territory and safely deliver them to the evacuation zone.

Garamendi appeared on CNN where he unbelievably said that “it makes no sense whatsoever” to use the military to get Americans to the airport, a stunning example of how his party places little importance on foreign affairs as they concentrate on destroying America at home.

CNN’s anchor posed the question: “The U.S. embassy in Kabul is now warning that the U.S. government can not ensure safe passage to Kabul airport and this is very tricky for people who are stuck outside the airport which is an area essentially controlled by the Taliban, what do you think should be done about this?”

Garamendi replied, “We’re going to send American troops in the heart and into the suburbs and into the streets of Kabul to extract people?”

“It makes no sense whatsoever. We do control the airport. We’re going to do the very best we can and the people in Kabul and in other parts of the country are going to have to do the very best they can to get there. There is no way the American military should use military force to go to someone’s house or some building somewhere to extract people. That will create a very significant problem and a very significant loss of life on both sides,” he said.

He added, “We do control the airport, we should continue to do that for as long as it takes to extract as many people as possible but to provide safe passage from parts of a huge city? No way…not sensible.”

Garamendi drew heavy fire from those who beg to differ that rescuing Americans makes no sense, who took to Twitter to express their sentiment to the contrary.

Garamendi’s unbelievable remarks conjure memories of Benghazi where similar indifference on the part of Democrat leadership including then-President Barack Obama, former Secretary Of State Hillary Clinton, and a guy named Joe Biden failed to take an attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound seriously enough to order an urgent rescue. Their dawdling and incompetence resulted in the murder of Ambassador J. Christopher Stephens and three other Americans by Islamic militants.

This time however there are thousands who are at risk and are essentially hostages of the Taliban.

The Armed Services Committee boss took to Twitter to defend himself and to accuse Republicans of lying about him, in other words, who are you going to believe, me or your own lying eyes and ears?

The complete implosion of the two-decades-long conflict in Afghanistan is a failure by Democrat leadership and while President Biden and his administration are to blame, there is plenty to spread around, especially when it comes to Congress.
