First female combat vet in Senate, Joni Ernst, decries state of Afghanistan: ‘It is all on President Biden’

According to Iowa Rep. Joni Ernst, a retired 23-year combat veteran who’s in fact the first female combat veteran to ever be elected to the U.S. Senate, the catastrophe unfolding in Afghanistan right now is the fault of President Joe Biden and his poor decision-making, full stop.

“It is all on President Biden’s shoulders — this rapid and haphazard withdrawal of American troops, of course, before he knew that our embassy would be safe, before we had our Afghan interpreters and other friends out of Afghanistan,” she bluntly said during an appearance Friday on Fox News’s “The Story.”

“To allow it to fall like this without any sort of plan or recourse, it is shameful. Again, it is all on President Biden. This did not have to happen,” she added.

The question now, she continued, is what’ll Biden do next.

“We have women and girls that are being threatened by the Taliban, others that are being killed by the Taliban. We know that there are many other violent extremist organizations that are reconstituting in Afghanistan as we speak,” Ernst warned.

Moreover, the Taliban’s speedy success is reportedly inspiring other terrorist groups.

“Jihadist groups based in the country, some with transnational agendas like al-Qaeda, now have a template for defeating governments backed by major powers and have been emboldened by the Taliban’s lightning-fast advance,” The Economic Times reported.

“This is happening as the jihadi ecosystem is experiencing the lowest counter-terrorism pressure in the last two decades, effectively getting free rein. Asfandyar Mir, South Asia security analyst for the U.S. Institute for Peace, says it’s a dangerous combination when threats go up at the same time efforts to combat them go down,” the Indian paper added.

Ernst continued her remarks on Fox News by echoing a point that Trump-era Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had made the other day, which is that a withdrawal from Afghanistan (which was the brainchild of former President Donald Trump) isn’t the problem. The problem is Biden’s inability to execute it correctly.

“What we had were 2500 troops on the ground, advising and assisting the Afghan national defense security forces. And they were capable of holding off the Taliban with that very small contingent of American forces. We were able to have eyes and ears on the ground, picking up intelligence, knowing the Taliban and Al Qaeda’s moves,” she said, describing how the situation had looked with Trump in office.

“When we started this withdrawal, we lost that type of contact. We lost support for the Afghan security forces. We are not able to have the same level of air strikes that we did before we moved out of the country. So a steady withdrawal is always a smart thing. But to have a solid plan in place, and certainly working with our partner nations, is always very, very important,” she added.

The official withdrawal didn’t start til May 1st, at which point Biden and his “woke” military commanders had already taken over.

“We certainly should have been removing those that had helped us through this past 20 years from Afghanistan to our program. And yet the State Department and this Biden administration was slow-walking that entire process,” she added.

Some fierce critics of Biden’s “woke” generals suspect they were too busy reading up on “white rage” and other such “woke” topics.”

In her final remarks, Ernst correctly predicted that Kabul, the capital and largest city of Afghanistan, would fall to the Taliban.

“I do believe it will fall, Martha, and it hurts my heart to say that. I know that there are so many veterans of the global war on terror that are watching things unfold. Many I have heard from. They are shedding tears. I’ve heard from a Gold Star wife this morning. I spoke to her. Her husband lost his life in Afghanistan 10 years ago,” she said.

“The president is absolutely wrong in this. He was wrong in July for what he said. We have seen, for whatever reason, the Taliban is able to gain strength, move rapidly. They are within miles of Kabul. I do believe it will fall. That is unfortunate. But again, it is all on President Biden’s shoulders. This did not have to happen,” she added.

As of Saturday afternoon, Kabul was indeed on the verge of falling.
