Dem Rep. Rashida Tlaib calls to defund ICE, CBP, and DHS, falsely claims they ‘terrorize’ migrants

U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) wants to put all federal border-security agencies out of business because they are “terrorizing” illegal immigrants.

In an online video, Tlaib, a member of the radical ‘Squad’ in Congress, told immigrants rights, anti-deportation organization Just Futures Law that she would take the defunding approach in opposition to the Biden administration’s request for more advanced technology appropriations for the Department of Homeland Security.

“[We] must eliminate funding for CBP, ICE, and their parent organization DHS. Time after time, we have seen it, as advocates on the ground, as human services agencies on the ground, continue to see over and over again, that these agencies are inept to humanely guiding migrants, through our immigration system, and further continue, instead they further continue, to terrorize migrant communities located within our communities,” Tlaib claimed.

These comments imply that Tlaib may, in a way, be redefining the mission of Customs and Border Protection and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement as “guides” rather than carrying out their statutory mission.

That may be the case in practice, however, pursuant to President Joe Biden’s open-borders policies which have led to a massive law enforcement, humanitarian, and public health crisis.

These comments are hardly out of character for the congresswoman. Last year, Tlaib called for the abolishment of ICE and she is also a big fan of defunding the police.

Upon taking office, the Biden administration stopped border wall construction, ended the Remain in Mexico policy for asylum seekers, and reinstituted catch and release, all with disastrous results.

Although the entire discussion — which would provide a fuller context — appears to be set on the private status on YouTube, Tlaib reportedly also described DNA collection or facial recognition technology as racist and implied that border enforcement itself is inhumane.

She also championed so-called comprehensive immigration reform, which seems like an all-purpose vessel that would otherwise likely lead to wide-ranging amnesty.

“The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) border request includes $665 million in investments toward modernizing land ports of entry and $47 million to invest in detection capabilities in addition to investments in border surveillance technology,” Fox News reported.

In May alone, U.S. officials reportedly detained about 180,000 migrants at the border region, as the unprecedented surge continues.

During the remote conversation, the lawmaker who has faced repeated accusations of antisemitism, again parroted the myth that Israel is an apartheid state.

She made this claim even though about 20 percent of that country’s population is Arab, and an Arab political party played a key role in the ouster (at least for now) of Benjamin Netanyahu from the premiership.
