An unusual incident at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Friday evening led to a delay for some passengers after a man opened the door and jumped out as the plane taxied down the runway before takeoff.

The startling incident was reported to have followed an onboard altercation on SkyWest flight 5365 and is reportedly under investigation as a possible hijacking, according to the Los Angeles Times. The flight was set to depart the airport in the city of angels at 6:55 p.m. and arrive in Salt Lake City but had to return to the gate area before eventually departing at 10:36 p.m.

The passenger was allegedly acting unruly when he attempted to breach the cockpit before he opened one of the side doors and tried to flee.

“The male who exited the aircraft was treated for injuries and transported to the hospital,” read a statement from the LAX Police, according to FOX 11. “No one on board the aircraft was injured and the aircraft was able to taxi back to the gate area.”

The incident occurred on the same day that Vice President Kamala Harris passed through the massive southern California travel hub after spending just a few hours at the border in El Paso, Texas. Many described her stop in El Paso as a “parachuting” visit where she was reported to have “mostly avoided” actually discussing the border before she hopped back on a plane in an apparent rush to return home to her posh Brentwood neighborhood in the Los Angeles area.

There have been several recent reported security breaches at LAX although there is no evidence to suggest any of the events are related.

Earlier this week, a suspect led the police on a car chase spanning different runways as planes were landing and taking off.

This breach happened at the same time Prince Harry, who recently became a Southern California resident with his wife Meghan Markle, was waiting for a flight back to the United Kingdom. Perhaps he decided that he had enough of the free speech in America that he recently lambasted as being “bonkers.”

On a recent Delta flight, a man had to be subdued by other passengers after he allegedly tried to breach the cockpit.  The flight was ultimately redirected and the man was greeted by law enforcement.

According to police, the man had threatened to “take the plane down.” The plot twist being that the unruly passenger is reportedly an off-duty Delta flight attendant.
