All About Me AOC is furious at outlet who called her Israel bashing an ‘outburst’, claims it’s sexist

U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) was heavily criticized on Sunday after expressing outrage that a media outlet called her comments labeling Israel an “apartheid state,” an “outburst.” She insinuated that the headline was sexist.

The New York Daily News ran with the headline: “AOC calls Israel ‘apartheid state’ in Twitter outburst over Gaza attacks.” The piece infuriated Ocasio-Cortez and she lashed out at both the outlet and MSN.com, which posted the article, over the wording.

“So are the extensively researched, painstaking conclusions from the UN, Human Rights Watch, and B’Tselem (among the largest human rights orgs in the world and in Israel) considered ‘outbursts’ too?” Ocasio-Cortez angrily asked. “Or is that just a descriptor MSN reserves for the women legislators quoting them?”

It is difficult to discern how Ocasio-Cortez conflates the term “outburst” with sexism towards women.

The head of the watchdog group UN Watch blasted the New York lawmaker for her statements.

“Congresswoman, that U.N. report accusing Israel of ‘apartheid’ was authored by 9/11 conspiracy theorist Richard Falk, who was denounced by his own UN chief Ban Ki-moon and by the UK for antisemitism, and it was commissioned by Syria, Libya and 18 other Arab states. #factsmatter,” Hillel Neuer tweeted.

Furthering her attacks on Israel, Ocasio-Cortez tweeted on Saturday: “Apartheid states aren’t democracies,” in response to escalating violence between the Palestinians and the Israelis. The message has received over 312,000 likes.

The young congresswoman also retweeted a video from MSNBC commentator Ali Velshi who stated: “The idea that it’s even remotely controversial to call what Israel has imposed on Palestinians a form of apartheid is laughable.”

The “Squad” member faced intense blowback over the use of “apartheid” in her reference to Israel as well.

“Every SINGLE elected Democrat in congress should have to answer if they agree with Ocasio-Cortez that Israel is an apartheid state,” Meghan McCain, “The View” co-host, tweeted on Sunday.

McCain also sent out a video of an appearance by Ocasio-Cortez on PBS’ “Firing Line” where she bluntly proclaimed she was “not the expert” on geopolitics when replying to a question on what she had termed as “the occupation of Palestine.”

Fred Guttenberg, who lost a child in the Parkland, Florida, school massacre that occurred in 2018, also excoriated Ocasio-Cortez for her depiction of Israel.

“I have defended you often from Republican attacks,” Guttenberg commented. “However, shame on you. You are wrong and either showing a lack of understanding or something more intentional veering on anti-Semitism.”

Ocasio-Cortez was also spitting mad at the Biden administration over an airstrike on a building in Gaza City the IDF claims was a base of operations for Hamas and also housed media outlets Al Jazeera and the Associated Press: “This is happening with the support of the United States. I don’t care how any spokesperson tries to spin this. The US vetoed the UN call for ceasefire. If the Biden admin can’t stand up to an ally, who can it stand up to? How can they credibly claim to stand for human rights?”

New York Democrat Dov Hikind shredded Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter for her statement: “I love how @AOC is 🤬 bc Israel bombed an empty @AlJazeera building but has never once expressed outrage at Hamas rockets and the innocent lives they’ve claimed! Very consistent with her pathetic brand of faux ‘humanitarianism’.”

Ocasio-Cortez has been very vocal in supporting the Palestinians and standing against Isreal. Thursday, she spoke on the House floor castigating the Jewish state for retaliating to attacks by Hamas.

Reflecting a growing schism in the Democratic Party, a group of nine Democrats including Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Ted Deutch, Josh Gottheimer, Elaine Luria, Brad Schneider, Brad Sherman, Kathy Manning, Jim Costa, and Lois Frankel all gave one-minute speeches concerning Israel’s right to defend itself.

Following that, a group of eleven other Democrats spoke out criticizing Israel. Those speakers included: Reps. Ocasio-Cortez, Tlaib, Omar, Mark Pocan, Betty McCollum, Ayanna Pressley, Cori Bush, Jan Schakowsky, Jesús García, André Carson, and Joaquín Castro.
