Prince-seeking dad skewered for gender-reveal reaction to soon-to-be little princess

Kids apparently aren’t the only ones to throw temper tantrums. One daddy-to-be flared up at his child’s recent gender reveal party when a balloon, and his hopes, were burst, confirming the sex of his child.

It seems the dad-to-be wanted a little prince instead of a princess.

The event unfolded as the mom-to-be leaned towards the black balloon adorned with question marks and popped it, releasing smaller pink balloons and streamers.

Almost everyone in the backyard scene was smiling and erupted in cheers at the revelation that the parents would be having a baby girl — except the father.  The dad did not appear to be having the same jovial lighthearted experience as the guests, as he appeared to yell, “Son of a b*tch,” before throwing the popped balloon and ribbon on the ground in an apparent sign of anger and frustration.

The viral video was shared on TikTok on April 25 with the hashtags #genderrevealworld and #babygirl by a user with the handle @mattb92 and has been viewed over half a million times.

Many of the reactions to the video of the dad’s unexpected feelings were hilarious, if not telling.

“Don’t worry. Your daughter won’t want you either.” wrote one commenter.

Another wrote, “Who wants to tell him it’s his swimmers?”

One person mocked him by writing, “and the Father of the Year award goes to…”

Others were sympathetic to his reaction, “I cried when I found out I was having another boy. Literally cried on the ultrasound table. thankfully there was no video.”

“Just because he was hoping for a boy, doesn’t mean he won’t love his little girl. Everyone acts like they’ve never had their hopes up about something,” wrote another.

The dad certainly seemed disappointed in the news of his coming baby girl but it may not be the first time he’s expected a daughter as the pregnant woman in the video had a toddler girl on her hip. Regardless, this certainly isn’t the first time a gender reveal party has gone up in smoke in recent months.

In April, a New Hampshire couple used 80 pounds of tannerite, an explosive target used in firearm practice, to ignite a massive explosion reportedly felt in Massachusetts and Maine. The explosion was so powerful that it cracked at least one home’s foundation and rattled the windows of several nearby homes.

“We heard this God-awful blast,” neighbor Sara Taglieri told NBC 10 Boston. “It knocked pictures off our walls . . . I’m all up for silliness and whatnot, but that was extreme.”

In 2017, another gender reveal went south when the dad party ignited a 47,000-acre fire in southern Arizona. Dennis Dickey, a U.S. Border Patrol agent, used blue power and tannerite to detonate a puff of blue powder in honor of his soon-to-be baby boy.  The dad plead guilty to the misdemeanor of starting a fire without a permit and agreed to pay $222,000 in restitution as well as be a part of a Forest Service public announcement about the Sawmill Fire he started.

The original gender reveal party girl and blogger, Jenna Karvunidis, begged people to make the trend safer in a post last year.

“For the love of God, stop burning things down to tell everyone about your kid’s penis. No one cares but you.”
