CNN’s Tapper tweets about Cuomo’s latest nursing home scandal but won’t talk about it on air

CNN’s Jake Tapper took to Twitter on more than one occasion this week to retweet the latest in scandals involving New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

But while he made sure to share the latest on a bombshell report published by The New York Times about Cuomo’s ever-expanding nursing home controversy, Tapper was noticeably mute about the issue on CNN.

Even more curious is that “The Lead” host received double his normal allotment of airtime on Thursday, four whole hours, and still found no time to let his viewers in on the evolving nursing home scandal. Instead, he covered President Joe Biden’s abysmally rated first address to a joint session of Congress Wednesday night. The address that was watched by only about 8 percent of the U.S. population, or approximately 20.8 million fewer viewers than President Trump’s first address.

Tapper was silent about the issue again during his two hours on the air Friday, but found plenty of time to retweet to his some 3.3 million Twitter followers a video clip of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio calling for Cuomo’s resignation when he appeared on CNN’s “New Day.”

Tapper’s on-air blackout of negative Cuomo news is not surprising, however, given the repeated occasions he has shared reports on Twitter while avoiding saying a word on CNN, as BizPac Review previously reported.

“He plays the role [CNN President] Jeff Zucker wants him to play, like pretty much everyone else at CNN. Pretty simple,” conservative commentator Stephen Miller told Fox News after another round of Tapper’s on-air silence.

The report released by The New York Times on Wednesday, added more details on the apparent efforts of Cuomo and his administration to deliberately hide data on COVID nursing home deaths. The report indicates that his aides prevented the efforts of state health officials to release the death toll to the public or to state law makers. The cover-up was reported to have happened at the same time Cuomo was penning his book about the pandemic.  This by the way, was the same book that AP News reported Cuomo is being investigated for after reports of his aides “volunteering” their time to help write the book surfaced, raising labor law questions.

Fox News’ Sean Hannity said on on “Hannity” this week that “the scandal is much worse than we ever realized.”

Fox News Senior Meteorologist, Janice Dean, who lost family members as a result of Cuomo’s executive order reacted to the story on “Hannity” this week, saying that it “was a bombshell report” and they went to “great lengths to hide those numbers, over 15,000 deaths, in New York, in nursing homes.”

She aptly pointed out that “The New York Times has a Bombshell report, that’s a big deal. But I will tell you that ABC, CBS and NBC didn’t cover it.”

Neither did CNN’s “The Lead,” though host Tapper did tweet about it.

Tapper hasn’t always protected his on air viewers about Cuomo’s misbehavior. Last month, Tapper took a brief moment to scold him on air about the accusations from by multiple women for harassment and sexual misconduct, with many calling for the Governor to resign.

Cuomo’s nursing home scandal has been unfolding for the past several months. In March, Cuomo was accused of withholding COVID tests from nursing homes as he prioritized family and friends instead.

The apparent hole Cuomo has dug for himself with regards to the cover-up of the nursing home deaths only appears to be growing bigger each time new information released. Although Tapper was apparently not willing to share the report on air, many may feel some level of satisfaction in seeing the liberals consume and cancel themselves when damning reports are released, even if it’s only in the empty space of Twitter.
