The First TV host Jesse Kelly warned Monday that leftist tyranny he sees rising in Western democracies such as the United Kingdom and Canada is also taking root in the U.S., noting that the only thing preventing a complete takeover by authoritarians is Americans’ continued access to firearms.
Kelly began by noting that governments in the UK and Canada were using the COVID-19 pandemic as the impetus to crack down hard on civil rights and civil liberties in the name of keeping people safe, even to the point of raiding churches to prevent worshippers from engaging in religious activities and police officers beating the elderly.
“Have you been watching this stuff in Canada, with what they’re doing with the coronavirus lockdowns?” Kelly said, noting that last week on his program he covered the story of a church that had been ordered closed being raided by hundreds of police after worshippers refused to comply.
The host then showed a highly disturbing video clip of police officers in Canada repeatedly striking an elderly man and destroying a portion of his porch railing in an apparent attempt to arrest him for an unknown violation.

“Look at what these cops are doing,” says a man taking the video. “They hit him in the head, they’re breaking his balcony. This is an old, frail man.”
“That’s an 85-year-old man. That’s someone’s grandpa,” a frustrated Kelly said after the clip, going on to point out that recently, a group of Canadians stood along the border with the U.S. and held their country’s flag upside down — which is the international distress signal — and sending out an “SOS” in lighted Morse code.
“Do you understand what’s taking place up north?” Kelly asked. “I want you to understand this. Like, ten minutes ago, Canada was your standard Democrat buddy. That’s all they were. ‘Ah, he’s not that bad! He’s not one of these radicals! He’s left, I realize that, but he’s not that bad. It’s fine.’
“And now they’re pummeling 85-year-old men and raiding churches,” he said.
Kelly went on to say that Americans over the years have gotten used to “a certain kind of Democrat” in the mold of John F. Kennedy, but “JFK is gone.”
“As an American, I need you to understand these people on the left today, they’re an inch away from tyranny,” he continued. “An inch. They want it. They can taste it. The only thing stopping the left from treating you the same way every tyrant has treated their subjects in the history of mankind is your firearms ownership.
“Your lefty buddy…he’s dying to oppress somebody, to censor somebody, to say who can do what” at the risk of harming those who resist, said The First TV host. “They all think like this because they don’t believe in freedom.”
Earlier this month, Fox News host Tucker Carlson also ripped the Canadian government for using the pandemic as justification to force citizens into certain actions, including quarantining themselves in substandard hotels.
“What if your next-door neighbor suddenly went dangerously insane and started holding people hostage in his house? Would you consider that threatening? Would you even notice it? These aren’t theoretical questions. Something very much like that just happened in our national neighborhood,” Carlson said.
“Canada — the landmass directly to our north and our single largest trading partner, the country with whom we share the longest international border in the world — Canada took a dramatic move toward legitimately dangerous authoritarianism. In Canada, yes,” he added.
To end his segment, Kelly warned that “kind of craziness” is coming to the U.S.
“You think it’s going to stay in Canada? That stuff is coming here. It is coming here,” he said, noting that Americans, including pastors of churches, have already been arrested over COVID violations.
“We need to be real, real vigilant and real careful ’cause I’m telling you, that stuff is coming soon here, it is,” Kelly said. “It’s gonna be ugly, ugly, ugly stuff.”
