What’s really going on at DHS? How vulnerable has America become under Joe Biden?

Op-ed views and opinions expressed are solely those of the author.

We’re still in the very early stages of the Biden administration and already a very clear message has been sent to the world that America is no longer prioritizing its security, and not only at the southern border.

In regard to the current migrant crisis, we are seeing an unmitigated disaster that has been created by President Joe Biden ever since he began to amplify his intent to grant legalization and a pathway to citizenship to as many as 11 million illegal residents of the US following his victory in this past November’s election.

The irresponsible messaging from Biden, in concert with his decision to immediately cease border wall construction, led to a whopping 78,323 border patrol encounters with migrants in the states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California in January of 2021. This was more than double the 36,585 border patrol encounters from January of 2020, according to data from US Customs and Border Protection

Regardless of any shameful media blackout, the liberal leaning lapdog media has not been able to conceal the truth, and the Central American and Mexican cartels, along with human traffickers, have taken notice of America’s warmer and friendlier attitude towards illegal border crossers and are set to rake in profits in the billions between the practice of enabling the human surge we’re are seeing along with other illicit activities related to drug trafficking and other organized crime activities.

Despite the fact that the detention centers designed to house individuals awaiting a court date to determine their future in the United States are overflowing, Department of Homeland Security Chief Alejandro Mayorkas ridiculously asserted just weeks ago that there is no crisis at the border, while at the same time acknowledging that America is on pace to encounter more migrants on the southwest border than during any time in the last two decades.

The fact that someone that occupies a position so extremely vital to the safety of Americans should certainly raise eyebrows, especially when you consider that Mayorkas’ DHS also oversees one of the most vital agencies to the security of the country, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency or CISA.

CISA is directly responsible for America’s cybersecurity posture and the protection of our critical infrastructure, including the country’s energy grid. We already have evidence that hackers from several countries including China and Russia have been able to successfully compromise vulnerabilities in the grid previously.

Compounding matters is the fact that CISA is still yet to reach its full operational capacity as a recent report from the Government Accountability Office shows that the agency is yet to implement the third and final phase of organizational changes that were planned as part of the CISA Act of 2018.

While the Act elevated the agency and saw the creation of a new organization chart, incident response centers and infrastructure security points of contact, over 50 planned tasks were still yet to be completed as of mid-February of this year.

Furthermore, CISA organizational changes still up in the air, especially at the top, where President Trump appointment Brandon Wales is seen as a placeholder for an eventual Biden nominee. This leaves America in a vulnerable position, as major cyber incidents like the widely reported SolarWinds hack, attacks from Chinese hacking group Hafnium against Microsoft’s Exchange Server software as well as Advanced Persistent Threat attacks against security software Fortinet FortiOS have compromised at least nine federal agencies in addition to thousands of private sector entities.

The disorganization and delusion being exhibited in regard to the border issue by the leader of the United States’ top federal executive department directly responsible for public security invites aggression from not only cartels, human traffickers, and terrorists, but also the many state-sponsored hacking groups that have the ability to wreak major havoc on the country by executing hacking operations against our critical infrastructure.

We are less than a quarter of a year into the new administration and America is in a very different place than it was under President Trump just last year. The new reality sees North Korea testing a new type of tactical guided missile as Iran and other world powers are already discussing the lifting of American sanctions regarding the Iranian nuclear program. It now frighteningly seems that America’s enemies are already taking advantage of our domestic chaos.
