Marjorie Taylor Greene slaps sign up outside office to get back at Dem Rep. neighbor

U.S. Rep. Marie Newman planted a blue, pink, and white transgender flag outside Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s office and the Georgia Republican escalated the perceived challenge over the Equality Act by posting a sign that proclaimed there are only “two genders.”

Greene had made a motion to adjourn a vote on the Equality Act which apparently incensed Newman: “Our neighbour, @RepMTG, tried to block the Equality Act because she believes prohibiting discrimination against trans Americans is ‘disgusting, immoral, and evil’,” Newman quipped in a tweet.

“Thought we’d put up our Transgender flag so she can look at it every time she opens her door,” stated the Illinois lawmaker. Newman’s daughter is reportedly transgender.

Just hours after Newman made her political statement, Greene escalated the feud by putting up a sign outside her office that made her viewpoint crystal clear: “There are TWO genders. MALE & FEMALE. Trust the science!”

“Our neighbour, @RepMarieNewman, wants to pass the so-called “Equality” Act to destroy women’s rights and religious freedoms,” Greene responded. “Thought we’d put up ours so she can look at it every time she opens her door.”

The two freshman politicos’ offices are located directly across from one another in the Longworth House office building.

The Equality Act, HR 5, is purportedly intended to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. It is an effort to codify a ruling by the Supreme Court in 2020 that the 1964 Civil Rights Act ostensibly protects gay and transgender individuals from discrimination.

Newman made an emotional speech on the House floor talking about how the law would offer protections for her transgender daughter. “The right time to pass this act was decades ago. The second best time is right now,” Newman stated. “I’m voting yes on the Equality Act for Evie Newman, my daughter and the strongest, bravest person I know.”

Greene also tweeted in response to Newman’s speech: “As mothers, we all love and support our children. But your biological son does NOT belong in my daughters’ bathrooms, locker rooms, and sports teams.”

Greene has been very vocal in her stance that biological women are not capable of competing against biological men: “They will be in her locker room, they will be in her showers, they will be in her bathroom, they will be in her hotel room when she travels with her team,” she stated. “This is wrong.”

Greene has also co-sponsored legislation that would prohibit transgenders from joining women and girls’ athletic divisions.

“It is one thing to stop discrimination of a class of people, but it is another thing to completely violate and destroy the rights of girls and women in order to achieve this,” Greene said. “This bill must be struck down.”

In agreement with Newman, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez mocked Greene for “trying to get out of work early.”

“You could just vote ‘no’ instead of trying to get out of work early,” Ocasio-Cortez snarked in a tweet.

“We’re gonna pass the #EqualityAct today, protect our LGBTQ+ family and make the world a little bit better,” she stated. “Nothing is going to stop that.”

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) slammed Greene for her actions. He was one of 11 Republicans who voted to punish Greene by stripping her of committee assignments in Congress.

“This is sad and I’m sorry this happened. Rep. Newman’s daughter is transgender, and this video and tweet represents the hate and fame driven politics of self-promotion at all evil costs,” Kinzinger tweeted. “This garbage must end, in order to #RestoreOurGOP.”
