Left-wing networks CNN and MSNBC ignored bombshell accusations from New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s top aide that he and his administration conspired to hide dramatically higher COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes than officially acknowledged.
On Thursday, the New York Post reported that Cuomo’s administration purposely withheld the real number of deaths because they were fearful of being prosecuted by the Trump administration.
Secretary to the Governor Melissa DeRosa told New York state’s Democrat leaders during a video conference that the Cuomo administration “froze” when former President Donald Trump began to publicly critique the Democratic governor’s handling of the pandemic in the state’s nursing homes.
“He starts tweeting that we killed everyone in nursing homes,” DeRosa said, The Post reported. “He starts going after [New Jersey Gov. Phil] Murphy, starts going after [California Gov. Gavin] Newsom, starts going after [Michigan Gov.] Gretchen Whitmer.”
The former president then “directs the Department of Justice to do an investigation into us,” DeRosa continued, according to the paper.
“Because then we were in a position where we weren’t sure if what we were going to give to the Department of Justice, or what we give to you guys, what we start saying, was going to be used against us while we weren’t sure if there was going to be an investigation,” she reportedly continued. “That played a very large role in this.”
The Associated Press reported that under the terms of a March 2020 order, more than 9,000 COVID-19 positive patients were admitted into nursing homes despite health experts’ warning early in the pandemic that older adults were far more susceptible to dying from the disease. The order was finally rescinded in May.
New York State health officials previously confirmed to The Daily Caller that around May 3 the agency changed the way it was reporting coronavirus deaths in nursing homes.
“Cuomo then used his state’s manipulated statistics to claim New York had a much lower nursing home fatality rate than other states with large COVID-19 outbreaks,” the outlet reported.
However, none of the DeRosa’s revelations appeared to be important to MSNBC or CNN, the latter of which employs Cuomo’s younger brother, Chris Cuomo — who once had the governor on his show to do a comedy bit featuring an oversized nasal swab that many found inappropriate and tone-deaf.
“A search of transcripts found that the words “nursing homes” and “Andrew Cuomo” weren’t uttered once on Thursday night during the primetime hours of 8-11 p.m. on CNN or MSNBC,” Fox News reported Friday.
State Republicans in New York pounced on the news.
“The second most powerful person in state government and top aide to Gov. Cuomo admitted on video to the premeditated and willful violation of state laws and what clearly amounts to federal obstruction of justice,” state GOP Chairman Nick Langworthy said. “Andrew Cuomo has abused his power and destroyed the trust placed in the office of governor. Prosecution and impeachment discussions must begin right away.”
“Governor Cuomo, the Secretary to the Governor, and his senior team must be prosecuted immediately — both by the Attorney General of New York State and the U.S. Department of Justice,” U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York said in a statement.
“I have said from the beginning that this is more than a nursing home scandal, this is a massive corruption and coverup scandal at the highest level of New York State Government implicating the Governor, the Secretary to the Governor, the New York State Health Commissioner and the Governor’s staff,” she added while calling on President Joe Biden’s administration to launch an investigation.
Fox News senior meteorologist Janice Dean, who has been one of Cuomo’s biggest critics after she lost both of her in-law parents to COVID in a nursing home, said on Twitter everyone involved in the cover-up including Cuomo “should…go to jail.”
The Secretary to @NYGovCuomo @melissadderosa admitted in a closed door meeting yesterday with democratic lawmakers that they covered it all up. They should all go to jail.
