Only days away from being sworn into office, Rep.-elect Luke Letlow, R-La., has died from complications related to COVID-19.

Just 41 years old, Letlow’s death is drawing lots of attention because the newly-elected lawmaker is well outside the age group of those most at risk. Married and the father of two young children, Letlow’s passing was made all the more tragic.

Letlow was reportedly hospitalized a week before Christmas after testing positive for the virus and was being treated with the antiviral drug Remdesivir and steroids.

Dr. G.E. Ghali, of LSU Health Shreveport, said Letlow was in critical condition but had recently shown signs of improvement when he “apparently suffered a cardiac event this evening that was refractory to all resuscitation efforts,” NOLA.com reported.

When the newspaper asked if Letlow had any underlying conditions that would have made his death more likely, Ghali replied in a text message: “none. All COVID related.”

“The family appreciates the numerous prayers and support over the past days but asks for privacy during this difficult and unexpected time,” spokesman Andrew Bautsch said. “A statement from the family along with funeral arrangements will be announced at a later time.”

Fellow Louisiana Republican Rep. Steve Scalise, tweeted a statement from the state’s Republican congressional delegation.

“Devastated to hear of my friend Congressman-elect Luke Letlow’s passing,” the GOP Whip added. “Luke had such a positive spirit and a tremendously bright future. Join me in praying for his young family during this incredibly difficult time.”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., tweeted his condolences.

“Our hearts break tonight as we process the news of Congressman-elect Luke Letlow’s passing,” the GOP leader said. “I spoke with his wife, Julia. Judy and I are praying for her and their two young children during this terrible time.”

In a rare sign of bipartisanship on Capitol Hill, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., also released a statement mourning Letlow’s passing.

“Tonight, the United States House of Representatives sadly mourns the passing of Congressman-elect Luke Letlow,” the speaker said in the statement.

“As the House grieves Congressman-elect Letlow’s passing, our sorrow is compounded by the grief of so many other families who have also suffered lives cut short by this terrible virus,” the release added. “May it be a comfort to Luke’s wife Julia and their children Jeremiah and Jacqueline that so many mourn their loss and are praying for them at this sad time.”

Grieving be damned for the despicable left, though, as there was a rush to slam the deceased politician for not wearing a mask — 2020 can’t end fast enough:
