‘That was a screw-up’: Obama says he regrets not giving Dolly Parton Presidential Medal of Freedom

Former President Barack Obama expressed regret on CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” for not giving Dolly Parton the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Colbert hosted a segment titled “Questions We’re Pretty Sure Barack Obama Has Never Been Asked Before,” footage of the episode shows. One question was about why Dolly Parton hadn’t received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

“Looking back on your eight years, do you realize that’s the mistake you made?” Colbert asked Obama.

“That’s a mistake. I’m shocked,” Obama told Colbert. “Actually that was a screw-up. I’m surprised. I think I assumed she had already got one and that was incorrect. I’m surprised, she deserves one. I’ll call Biden.”

James Taylor, Bob Dylan, Barbara Streisand, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and Gloria Estefan, all received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Obama over his two terms, The Hill reported.

Representatives for Obama, Biden, and Parton didn’t immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
