Never-Trump operatives at the Lincoln Project, as well as scores of left-leaning media figures and outlets, are pushing claims planted by Iran that the patriot group Proud Boys is attempting to interfere in the election.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Director of National Intelligence and FBI Director Chris Wray announced that both Iran and Russia are actively working to disrupt and undermine the 2020 election, in part by planting false information like that involving the Proud Boys that foreign operatives knew would be immediately parroted by groups and media that are hostile to President Donald Trump and Republicans.

“We would like to alert the public that we have identified that two foreign actors, Iran and Russia, have taken specific actions to influence public opinion relating to our elections,” Ratcliffe told reporters Wednesday evening.

The DNI explained further that Iranian and Russian intelligence operatives managed to obtain U.S. voter registration data, which then allowed them to send false information to registered voters in an attempt to add chaos to the current electoral cycle, which was already forecast to be chaotic this year thanks to widespread mail-in balloting.

“To that end, we have already seen Iran send spoofed emails designed to intimidate voters, incite social unrest, and damage President Trump,” Ratcliffe said.

But the operation to sow chaos would not have had any success were the disinformation planted by both countries not amplified by American media and organizations like the Lincoln Project, the latter made up of one-time Republican operatives who have a vendetta against the president.

In one false flag operation meant to assist Democratic nominee Joe Biden, Iranian operatives posed as members of the Proud Boys organization in an attempt to dissuade voters in Florida from going to the polls.

In a podcast Wednesday evening, One America News’ Jack Posobiec noted that by launching an operation to assist Biden, the Iranians were signaling their support for him over President Trump, whose foreign policy has targeted and isolated the regime in Tehran.

As for the Lincoln Project, following Wednesday’s press conference by Ratcliffe and Wray, the group deleted a tweet warning, “The Proud Boys are attempting to scare voters away from the polls,” adding such actions are punishable by up to a year in prison.

Other members of the media, including PBS’ Yamiche Alcindor, also repeated the false claim.

“Media did exactly what Iran knew they would do. They assumed fake ‘Proud Boys’ e-mails were real, then used them to attack Trump,” an unnamed senior intelligence official told The Federalist Wednesday, following the press conference. “Some members of the media are doing Iran’s job for them in spite of literally just being warned not to.”

The DNI also noted that U.S. intelligence officials have discovered that Iran is also disseminating additional false content including a video claiming that people in the U.S. and abroad can cast fake ballots.

“This video and any claims about such allegedly fraudulent ballots are not true,” Ratcliffe said.

The DNI said U.S. intelligence officials had not detected the same level of interference from Moscow, but noted that Russian operatives also obtained Americans’ voter registration information.

“These actions are desperate attempts by desperate adversaries,” Ratcliffe said.

Added Wray: “We are not going to tolerate foreign interference in our elections or any criminal activity that threatens the sanctity of your vote or undermines public confidence in the outcome of the election.”

The Federalist noted that the false Proud Boys information being spread on social media and by standard media has not been censored or otherwise disrupted by the big tech platforms the way they have censored legitimate, corroborated information regarding new corruption allegations against Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, as well as other members of the Biden family.

The new allegations were first disclosed last week by the New York Post, whose Twitter account has been locked since. The paper’s last post was Oct. 14.

“Meanwhile, 2020 election voting is underway with an overwhelming number of voters receiving mail-in ballots,” The Federalist reported.
