An increasing number of lifelong Democrats have begun publicly vowing to vote for President Donald Trump, a Republican, in the upcoming 2020 race.

These Democrats range from political figures like New York Assemblyman Dov Hikind to liberal commentators like Tim Pool and best-selling authors like James Lindsay.

Some of these Democrats barely even care for the president, be it because of his demeanor or his conservative policy positions.  But they’re voting for him anyway.

Why? Here here’s one reason via Hikind:

“In 2016, I did not support Donald Trump. I was concerned. Once he was elected, I said ‘let me give him an opportunity,'” Hikind revealed in the clip above.

This alone separates him from many in the pack. Following the president’s inauguration in early 2017, a large number of Democrats promptly began calling for his impeachment.

“Donald Trump has been president for about a month. And already, a sizable majority of Democrats say he should be impeached,” The Washington Post reported on Feb. 24, 2017.

Two years later in late 2019, they went ahead and impeached him, after which they began speaking about impeachment him again. It’s been like a broken record with them — and the reason why, according to Hikind, is because the Democrat Party has changed.

[W]e have to face a certain reality about the Democrat Party. The Democrat Party of 2020 is not the Democratic Party that I joined many years ago,” he said.

The values of this country are being destroyed by a small group of people on the radical left who are deciding what you can say, what you believe in, and what’s right for everyone. I ask you to vote for our magnificent, wonderful country, and by doing that, you will be voting for Donald Trump.”

Other lifelong Democrats who’re also making the switch feel similarly. Take author, mathematician and commentator Dr. James Lindsay. In tweets posted Tuesday, he attributed his political about-face to the Democrats’ embrace of radical ideas.

Observe:

The notion of “abolishing the Constitution” has admittedly only been embraced by the most radical of left-wingers. However, the same cannot be said of less shocking but still radical ideas like packing the Supreme Court, eliminating the filibuster and axing the Electoral College. These ideas are now mainstream among Democrats. So are critical race theory and the discredited 1619 Project.

There are countless more Democrats who’ve grown disillusioned with the Democrat Party for the reasons described above, as well as a plethora of additional ones.

Look and listen:

But not every disillusioned Democrat has vowed to vote for Trump … yet.

Over in Omaha, Nebraska, a well-known Democrat has quit the party because of the Nebraska Democrat Party’s recent attacks on Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine.

According to local station KETV, the party began accusing Kleine of “perpetuating white supremacy” after he made a decision that the party disliked.

“This is about a person who has worked incredibly hard in the community and has been a friend to so many. And that means whites and browns and blacks, this is a fair-minded, good man,” former local Democrat Mary Barrett said to the station.

“For them take and attack a man and attack someone, who has done good things for Omaha, but to attack him was just wrong. This is the straw that broke the camel’s back.”

It’s unclear how many more straws it might take to convince her to go all the way and join the growing army of #WalkAway Americans who’re now voting for Trump.

Some former “Never Trumpers” have also effectively joined the #WalkAway army, including Glenn Beck and Ben Shapiro.

In a video announcement earlier this week, Shapiro, a staunch traditional conservative who was repelled by Trump’s rough demeanor in 2016, boiled down his about-face to the fact that the Democrat Party has gone cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.

“They’ve lost their minds! So have members of the mainstream media. So have members of our bureaucracy. So have members of academia. These people must not be allowed the mechanisms of power,” he said.

“Our most crucial institutions, from corporate America to the universities, they’ve been corrupted top to bottom, and giving them more power over your lives … huge mistake!”
