Leftists fume when Trump says he’ll use law enforcement to ensure a fair election at the polls

During the 2012 presidential election, then-President Barack Obama quietly released a poll-watching app to help monitor the election. Four years later, he deployed federal poll watchers to several communities for the same reason.

Though neither action provoked any outrage or conspiracy theorizing, the exact opposite phenomenon exploded across social media Thursday after President Donald Trump vowed to send poll watchers to monitor the upcoming 2020 general election.

Asked late Thursday by Fox News host Sean Hannity whether he’s “going to have poll watchers … monitor to avoid fraud and cross-check whether or not these are registered voters,” the president responded in the affirmative.

“We’re going to have everything. We’re going to have sheriffs, and we’re going to have law enforcement, and we’re going to have hopefully U.S. attorneys, and we’re going to have everybody, and attorney generals,” he emphatically said.

Obviously, U.S. attorneys are not going to be wandering around polling stations like mall cops. The president was clearly speaking broadly and saying in effect that he plans to ensure the integrity of the 2020 race by using every resource available to him.

Listen via Fox News’ “Hannity“:

In response to these simple, straightforward remarks, members of the increasingly radical and unhinged left again lost their ever-loving minds.

See a small sampling of the insanity below:

This is all crazy talk that will predictably likely be amplified by the mainstream press, which has had no qualms about entertaining Democrat-concocted conspiracy theories about how the president is trying to destroy the United States Postal Service.

But facts matter, and the facts point to there being nothing particularly noteworthy about the president’s interest in monitoring the upcoming election.

“The U.S. Department of Justice announced Monday it would be placing election monitors in Harris, Dallas and Waller counties for the general election. The department regularly monitors elections to protect the rights of voters,” The Texas Tribune reported a day before the 2016 election.

On Nov. 5, 2012, Mashable, a left-wing “news” site, eagerly reported about how then-President Obama and other Democrats would “be using a mobile app for poll watchers and Get Out the Vote across the country.”

Now fast-forward to just last October, when a Democrat congresswoman made a “personal” plea for the United Nations — a foreign organization — to monitor this year’s U.S. election.

Listen:

Dovetailing back to the present, some media outlets have argued that Trump’s rhetoric Thursday was problematic because the police aren’t allowed to monitor elections.

“Trump does not have the authority to send in local sheriffs or law enforcement to the polls,” Vice claimed.

This may be valid, though on the other hand, the president may not have been speaking literally, as noted earlier.

However, the Republican Party is reportedly making an effort to recruit 50,000 volunteer poll watchers, which would be legal.

“Republicans are recruiting an estimated 50,000 volunteers to act as ‘poll watchers’ in November, part of a multimillion-dollar effort to police who votes and how,” NBC News reported in June.

“[P]oll watching is an ordinary part of elections — both parties do it,” the left-wing outlet added before touting claims from Democrats about how “such a moneyed, large-scale offensive by the Republicans will intimidate and target minority voters who tend to vote Democratic.”

Again with the conspiracy theories …

For some reason, such theories never appear when Democrats appeal to foreign entities to monitor U.S. elections, release poll-monitoring apps and deploy federal poll monitors to Republican-controlled districts.

Why is that?

Regardless, the president’s remarks on FNC late Thursday continued with him noting that poll monitoring will be exceptionally difficult this year because of Democrat policies that have made it easier than ever before for voters to cheat.
