Rep. Matt Gaetz and “Sons of Anarchy” star Ron Perlman traded insults and barbs on Twitter Sunday after the Florida Republican blasted U.S. Soccer for reversing a previous rule banning kneeling or other forms of protest during the playing of the National Anthem.
“I’d rather the US not have a soccer team than have a soccer team that won’t stand for the National Anthem. You shouldn’t get to play under our flag as our national team if you won’t stand when it is raised,” Gaetz wrote on the social media platform Thursday after the league announced the reversal of its previous policy.

U.S. Soccer, the NFL, and other professional sports leagues have either announced decisions to allow players to protest or are considering doing so in the wake of the death of George Floyd, a black Minneapolis man who died at the hands of police last month, sparking nationwide protests, demonstrations, and riots.
The U.S. Soccer Board of Directors voted yesterday to repeal Policy 604-1, which required our players to stand during the national anthem.

Earlier, Gaetz also wrote that players for the U.S. team should “go full woke and remove the ‘U.S.’ altogether.”

President Donald Trump also took to his favorite social media platform to announce he would no longer be watching either U.S. Soccer or the NFL if anthem protests were permitted and took place this season.

But it was Gaetz’s tweets that caught the eye of Perlman, best known for his character as an outlaw biker on the FX series in recent years.
**Warning: Language
“The US Soccer team called and you guessed it… said they couldn’t give any less of a f— about what you two dipsh**s think,” he wrote, tagging Gaetz and the president.

The Florida Republican responded a couple of hours later.
“This racial justice warrior had no problem in Hollywood portraying the White Supremacist leader of a motorcycle gang. #SOA,” he wrote, a reference to Perlman’s character.

“Yessir, so true,” Perlman fired back. “So rewarding playing a**holes on tv. Tell me sir, how is it actually being one?”

That led Gaetz to respond, “Honestly? The fact that Hollywood thinks I’m an asshole is a badge of honor 🙂 You wouldn’t be tweeting about me if my message weren’t true & effective. Threatens your wokeness. How triggered will you be when @realDonaldTrump is re-elected? More or less than when crooked lost?”

Perlman didn’t let that response go without a rebuttal.
“Speaking of Woke Matty, do you think it’s just Hollywood that thinks you’re an asshole?” Perlman replied in a pair of tweets. “Read the comments, I’ll wait… And while we’re at it f—boi, what is this sh*t about playing your crowd with dog whistles like ‘Hollywood,’ making them think culture is the thing that’s keeping them down? When it’s really you and your greed.”

“I can see I was way off w the “triggered” analysis…” Gaetz shot back.

The Florida Republican then challenged Perlman to drop the “tough guy” act.
“Dude I represent a district of 700k that elected me w about two-thirds of the vote the last 3x I’ve been on a ballot. Blue check marks don’t scare me anymore than your fictional white supremacy motorcycle gang. Leave the tough guy comments for those of us who face the voters,” he wrote.

“Ya know what, you’re right. A guy who wins a totally gerrymandered district with daddy’s money deserves our deepest admiration. You’re right..I only PLAY scumbags and grifters. You’re the real deal!” Perlman added.

“Gerrymandered district? The western and northern borders of my district are Alabama. The southern boundary is the Gulf of Mexico. It’s literally impossible to gerrymander. Try again,” Gaetz wrote.

“My district map is below. Facts must be difficult for you to process in your current state of wokeness,” he wrote.
Gaetz then responded with a map of the district he represents, which does not appear convoluted or ‘gerrymandered.’
