Hours after a member of the mainstream establishment media claimed that President Donald Trump “is a Russian operative,” other members of this same cabal of conspiracy theorists began fretting over the president’s latest Office of the Director of National Intelligence picks.
Technically, the fretting began Thursday afternoon, when reports emerged that U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell had been tapped to serve as the acting director of national intelligence.
Later that evening, MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell accused the president of being “a Russian operative,” thus reviving the Russian collusion hoax and conspiracy theory.

The following morning, another report emerged indicating that Kash Patel, a former National Security Council official and former congressional staffer who’d helped then-House Intelligence Committee chair Devin Nunes draft the highly accurate “Nunes Memo” in 2018, has been tapped to service as Grenell’s senior adviser.
Published by Politico, even the report itself was chockablock with misinformation.
“Kash Patel, a former top National Security Council official who also played a key role as a Hill staffer in helping Republicans discredit the Russia probe, is now a senior adviser for new acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell, according to four people familiar with the matter,” the outlet reported.
Republicans did not “discredit” the Russian collusion delusion investigation. Findings from Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz made it clear that they accurately exposed the investigation’s many shortcomings via the Nunes memo.
And it just so happens that Patel was instrumental in drafting that memo.
Kash Patel was instrumental in preparing the Nunes memo that was “accurate” as opposed to the “full of Schiff” memo, he is obviously the smartest employee to have worked on that committee and deserves a promotion. And what a promotion it is!!! Make lefties cry again!

Patel helped research and write Devin Nunes memo about FISA abuse and the entire debunked Russia hoax. It was proven correct while your hero, Adam Schiff’s counter memo was proven completely wrong. He’ll be perfect because he already knows the dems are scumbags.

Great pick. We were told to remember his name in June 2018. He helped write the Nunes memo re: FISA abuse.@DevinNunes called Patel an “absolutely crucial committee investigator who’s always two steps ahead of the DOJ.”https://t.co/evqvj8qbauhttps://t.co/HaRK4pDedd https://t.co/LixV8blK9R pic.twitter.com/SgWlXENgD5

9) Patel was an aid to Devin Nunes. He helped write the famous “Nunes memo” that detailed the improper actions taken by Spygate plotters – a memo disputed by Adam Schiff but found to be factually accurate after the IG report on Crossfire Hurricane was released. pic.twitter.com/PG1km26gcT

“Two sources familiar with the matter told me that much of the heavy lifting was done by Kash Patel,” The Atlantic reported in January of 2018, a month before the memo was released publicly.
“The Nunes memo is not Patel’s first foray into the FISA and unmasking controversy that was drummed up by his boss back in March 2017,” the left-wing outlet’s report continued.
“Patel circulated an internal memo last November urging Nunes to hold top officials at the Justice Department and the FBI in contempt of Congress for failing to turn over documents related to the Obama administration’s alleged use of the dossier to surveil Trump associates during the transition period, one of the sources told me.”
The Obama administration’s so-called “alleged use of the dossier to surveil Trump associates” was later found not to have been alleged but rather 100 percent real.
The same breed of conspiracy theory-chasing “reporters,” “journalists” and Democrats who’d spent years touting the collusion delusion conspiracy now appear to be horrified that one of the top officials who’d helped expose the conspiracy is being promoted.
And so within hours of Politico’s report being published, it was trending among the blue checkmark “Twitterati” resistance types who inhabit the world of Twitter.
It just keeps getting worse…

Democracy is under attack from within. Subversion of Congressional confirmations robs – yes, as in the CRIME of robbery – the American people proper representation in who gets confirmed to critical positions. https://t.co/UTBCVBKZcd

What’s happening over in the IC is second only to what’s happening over at DOJ in terms of things that should keep people up at night.

The horror among the Democrat Party base was even more unrestrained, with non-blue checkmark Twitter leftists claiming “Russians basically run out intelligence agencies now” and “Putin’s plans for the takeover of the United States is nearing completion.”
Grenell’s appointment a day earlier as the acting DNI provoked just as much outrage.
Trump is doing this because he knows Grenell couldn’t be confirmed to the role, which is what the US Constitution requires. Once again, when the Constitution is inconvenient, Trump finds a work around and the Republican-controlled Senate just obliges. Originalism, indeed. https://t.co/PhS3D5hsXh

Under the current Acting ODNI, the IC has reportedly withheld Ukraine related information from Congress and canceled their annual, public worldwide threat briefing bc they didn’t want to upset Trump ( by speaking truth )
Grenell would undoubtedly double down on all of that. https://t.co/hkuw0ZpBju

Outrageous. Will pollute and discredit intelligence community.
— Jennifer Rubin (@JRubinBlogger) February 19, 2020
But according to Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin, the outrage was for naught:
The attacks on Acting DNI @RichardGrenell are not bc he won’t do the job exceptionally. The threat is they’re afraid he will! He’s the anti Clapper, which is PERFECT! Ric will take no prisoners in cleaning up any mess still lingering to move the IC forward stronger than ever.
