Left up-in-arms when Nunes confidant is picked to be Ric Grenell’s senior adviser on intel

Hours after a member of the mainstream establishment media claimed that President Donald Trump “is a Russian operative,” other members of this same cabal of conspiracy theorists began fretting over the president’s latest Office of the Director of National Intelligence picks.

Technically, the fretting began Thursday afternoon, when reports emerged that U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell had been tapped to serve as the acting director of national intelligence.

Later that evening, MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell accused the president of being “a Russian operative,” thus reviving the Russian collusion hoax and conspiracy theory.

The following morning, another report emerged indicating that Kash Patel, a former National Security Council official and former congressional staffer who’d helped then-House Intelligence Committee chair Devin Nunes draft the highly accurate “Nunes Memo” in 2018, has been tapped to service as Grenell’s senior adviser.

Published by Politico, even the report itself was chockablock with misinformation.

Kash Patel, a former top National Security Council official who also played a key role as a Hill staffer in helping Republicans discredit the Russia probe, is now a senior adviser for new acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell, according to four people familiar with the matter,” the outlet reported.

Fact-check: FALSE.

Republicans did not “discredit” the Russian collusion delusion investigation. Findings from Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz made it clear that they accurately exposed the investigation’s many shortcomings via the Nunes memo.

And it just so happens that Patel was instrumental in drafting that memo.

“Two sources familiar with the matter told me that much of the heavy lifting was done by Kash Patel,” The Atlantic reported in January of 2018, a month before the memo was released publicly.

“The Nunes memo is not Patel’s first foray into the FISA and unmasking controversy that was drummed up by his boss back in March 2017,” the left-wing outlet’s report continued.

“Patel circulated an internal memo last November urging Nunes to hold top officials at the Justice Department and the FBI in contempt of Congress for failing to turn over documents related to the Obama administration’s alleged use of the dossier to surveil Trump associates during the transition period, one of the sources told me.”

The Obama administration’s so-called “alleged use of the dossier to surveil Trump associates” was later found not to have been alleged but rather 100 percent real.

The same breed of conspiracy theory-chasing “reporters,” “journalists” and Democrats who’d spent years touting the collusion delusion conspiracy now appear to be horrified that one of the top officials who’d helped expose the conspiracy is being promoted.

And so within hours of Politico’s report being published, it was trending among the blue checkmark “Twitterati” resistance types who inhabit the world of Twitter.

Look:

The horror among the Democrat Party base was even more unrestrained, with non-blue checkmark Twitter leftists claiming “Russians basically run out intelligence agencies now” and “Putin’s plans for the takeover of the United States is nearing completion.”

Grenell’s appointment a day earlier as the acting DNI provoked just as much outrage.

Look:

But according to Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin, the outrage was for naught:
