President Trump flips script, tweets ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ MAGA hat clip with pride

It must drive liberals mad that President Donald Trump proves to be so unflappable and indefatigable in the face of relentless attacks by both the political class and pop culture.

Then again, there’s a reason their unhinged resistance is called Trump Derangement Syndrome.

In a further effort to ostracize Trump supporters, Larry David did a bit on the impact of wearing a MAGA hat for the new season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” — but never in his wildest imagination did he think Trump would flip the script and use it to promote himself.

In the segment, David cuts off a biker and the burly man furiously berates him as he rides along, hurling expletives. Desperate to avoid a heated confrontation he has no hope of winning, David produces a MAGA hat as the biker gets alongside the driver’s side door.

Upon seeing the Trump hat, the biker’s demeanor changes instantly, as he calmly says, “Just be more careful next time, okay?”

The president would tweet out the clip, along with the caption: “TOUGH GUYS FOR TRUMP!”

How did the left respond? They took issue with the number of F-bombs in the clip — this liberal concern over profanity perhaps being a historical first.

But then, as 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden once said to former President Barack Obama, “This is a big f*cking deal.”

There was also the angle that President Trump didn’t understand what the segment was about, though that got shut down pretty quick, as it’s clear he was talking about the biker.

The MAGA hat bit was part of an overall segment on wearing the Trump hat to get out of social situations, unwelcome people around David are repulsed by it.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Jeff Schaffer said they had security concerns about keeping the segment secret because “you just never see a person in a MAGA hat in Los Angeles.”

“We had a total security concern, because Larry David in a MAGA hat is quite a photo op,” he explained. “We’re shooting on location out on San Vicente, and that walk-and-talk was on Pico; we were out in the open. We were always on the lookout and asking, ‘Please, no photography.’ Because we really didn’t want to ruin that image, and we got really lucky — that would have been a huge spoiler.

“Larry in the hat is such a dissonant image,” Schaffer said. “You realized when he put it on that you just never see a person in a MAGA hat in Los Angeles. It’s like spotting a double rainbow of intolerance. He wanted to wait until the last minute to put it on when he got on set, so it really had a good effect. It was like seeing your uncle the banker doing cosplay, it was bizarre.”

Of course, with Trump tweeting it out to his 72.4 million followers, the clip got more exposure than it likely would have otherwise, delivering valuable earned media for him in the process.

Fittingly, when asked about whether he was worried that he might alienate Trump supporters who wear MAGA hats, David was clear that this was the very least of his concerns.

“Alienate yourselves!” he replied. “You have my blessing.”

He then added, “No, I could give a f*ck!”

In the end, it’s Trump’s wide appeal to Americans that has the left sweating the 2020 election so much:
