Word to the wise: If you live by the woke, chances are you’ll die by the woke.
Enter very “woke” and obsessively anti-Trump Hollywood actor and comedian Jim Carrey, who’s spent the past four years building “yuge” credit with the social justice community via his incessant attacks on President Donald Trump and his children.
Sadly for him, however, he didn’t build up enough credit to save him from being devoured by the same class of leftists whom he’s tried to court. Of course, it appears he’s now trying to be a little less woke — more on this later — but still.
Flashback to Friday, when the actor appeared on “The Graham Norton Show,” a British talk show broadcast on BBC One. His appearance on the program coincided with the appearance of Australian actress and film producer Margot Robbie, whom he was excited to meet.
“I wanted to talk to you because you’re amazing and I’m so excited for you,” he said to the actress, presumably referring to her Oscar nomination.
“It’s incredible that you’ve gotten as far as you have with your obvious physical disadvantages. That’s just pure talent there.”
Listen:
It was a fun, flirty joke, which was why Robbie and the audience burst out laughing. The fact is that Robbie is, objectively speaking, very attractive.
There’s just one problem: In the boring woke world that Carrey has intentionally chosen to inhabit, there’s so such thing as a fun, flirty joke, because so-called “fun, flirty jokes” — and all jokes, really — are verboten.
And so even though Robbie clearly appreciated the joke, the actor has nevertheless become public enemy numero uno to the SJW community.
Observe (*Language warning):
Did anyone else think @JimCarrey comment about @MargotRobbie on the @grahnort show was not okay. She’s an amazing actress and now a successful producer, had it been a male actor in her seat I doubt @JimCarrey would have commented on their ‘obvious physical disadvantages’

He was even worse to watch this live in the studio. It was as if oh crap uncle knobhead is here, let’s just say nothing nod & laugh at his isolated antidotes. The entire energy on the sofa took a nose dive.

Yup… He’s a creepy little man and she didn’t look happy with him at all

#grahamnortonshow Jim Carey was quite creepy on Graham Norton. So patronising to Margot Robbie saying she’s only gotten where she is because of her looks! She certainly wouldn’t be getting nominated for awards if she wasn’t an extremely talented actress.

Jim Carrey making a reductive, negging joke at Oscar nominee Margot Robbie on Graham Norton *while* he’s there spriuking Sonic is a fucking masterpiece of weird male comedian fragility

I love Jim Carrey to death but his comments on Margot Robbie last night left me extremely disappointed.
I think in his head he was trying to be funny but it came across as condescending, rude and weird. Might skip the Sonic movie after this, but I’m not sure.. pic.twitter.com/wpNG90ryKh

I’m going to make myself look like a complete woke cockwomble.
It was the weakest of weak jokes predicated upon and perpetuating a dull trope that female actors rely upon looks rather than talent.
It’s not offensive but it nevertheless perpetuates a trope.
Was it funny? Nope.

The references to “Sonic” are to “Sonic the Hedgehog,” an upcoming animated film co-starring Carrey. It’s unclear whether this anger from the liberal crowd will affect the movie’s sales.
What’s particularly interesting is the timing of this apparent faux pas, for something else quite remarkable also happened last week.
“You won’t be seeing any more political-themed paintings from actor-turned-artist Jim Carrey,” Yahoo News reported.
“At a recent press day for his new film Sonic the Hedgehog, the popular comedy star told Yahoo Entertainment he’s done skewering the likes of President Donald Trump, Sarah Huckabee Sanders and other figures associated with the current administration in unflattering caricatures he’d often post to his Twitter account.”
“To me, that was like a time, and it’s been a time, where I just wanted to be the lighthouse that was saying, ‘Hey, stay off the rocks, you’re headed for the rocks,'” he said to the outlet.
“We’re still headed for the rocks, but I’ve decided, ‘You understand my message, I don’t need to be steeped in it anymore.’ I think after a while … you get stuck in that kind of stuff.”
So exactly a day after he announced that he plans to cut it out with the uber-woke attacks on Trump, he went on to tell a very un-woke joke that triggered rage from the group for whom he used to make paintings …
Hmm! Is there perhaps a chance he’s following the footsteps of other comedians and waking up from his woke slumber? Probably not, given what he said about America still being “headed for the rocks” (it’s certainly not).
Nevertheless, many in the non-woke community have had no qualms about rushing to the actor’s defense and telling his compatriots to zip it with their snowflake-ism.
Look:
Jim Carrey was genuinely commending Margot Robbie – the comment about her making it despite obvious physical disadvantages was a secondary afterthought. If he was scorning anyone, it was Hollywood, of whom Jim is famously critical – not Margot, whom he was clearly complimenting.

Can a comedian not make a jest without snowflakes in the world taking it to heart. She is a beautiful lady who has made in in Hollywood, or would it suit that someone less attractive get the roles. We know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but it doesn’t put bums on seats.

@TheGNShow Jim Carrey is hilarious. How many more snowflakes out there are going to spoil things continually. Get over yourselves.

Jim Carrey cracks a joke and you’ve all got issues with him. Talk about snowflakes. #GrahamNortonShow
