Meghan McCain believes Trey Gowdy’s a force to be reckoned with, so laugh at him at your own peril.
‘The View” host Whoopi Goldberg was clearly agitated at the fact that the Trump administration is giving no oxygen to Democrats impeachment inquiry, and will not comply with their subpoenas.
“The White House says they will not cooperate with the House impeachment hearings,” Goldberg snipped, before having a good chuckle about Trey Gowdy joining Trump’s legal team.
“They’re reportedly tapped former South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy as part of their legal team,” she said.
“Mr. Benghazi,” co-host Joy Behar added drawing collective laughter.
Goldberg played a clip of Gowdy berating Democrats for withholding information during the Benghazi hearings. “The View” host seemingly believes there is a correlation between that and Trump not playing into an impeachment scam where Democrats are withholding the identity of key witnesses, leaking vital information piecemeal, and outright lying about transcripts that President Trump released to the public.
“We agree!” Behar said as the whole studio belly laughed.
McCain was quick to rain on their parade and reality-checked the rampant ignorance.
“I’m confused why everyone’s laughing,” McCain began. “My take on it is, they’ve been having closed hearings.”
And then, there’s, that.
The Democrat’s disingenuous call for transparency is clearly debunked by the insistence of having closed-door hearings regarding the impeachment inquiry. They’re even willing to take “extraordinary steps” to hide the identity of the so-called whistleblower at the heart of the impeachment stunt.
“Don’t we want most transparency as possible?” McCain asked. “And you can laugh all you want about Trey Gowdy but he’s one of the great[est] congressmen, he’s a brilliant orator, someone I’ve respected for years,” she said before turning toward the audience to give them a piece of her wrath as well.
“You can laugh all you want, but the fact that he’s joining Trump’s team is good news for Trump. And it’s bad news for Democrats.”
The reality bomb sent ‘The View’ hosts into overdrive, spewing out excuse after excuse. Goldberg maintained they were laughing at the “hypocrisy,” of Gowdy — completely ignoring the closed-door commentary her co-host just mentioned.
McCain doubled down.
“Democrats aren’t bringing stuff into the light of day. I want to see Congressional testimonies.” McCain called the current secrecy unprecedented.
“It seems like Democrats don’t want me to know what [witnesses] are saying!” she said.
That’s when Golberg launched into a major pivot, saying not to ‘forget” what the current controversy is all about. She cited the phone call between Trump and Ukraine President Zelensky where Trump was accused of delivering a quid pro quo for damaging information on political rival Joe Biden.
In the name of transparency, and to call the Democrats’ bluff, Trump quickly released the transcript to the call, proving no such quid pro quo was given.
Why can’t Americans get that kind of transparency from Dems?
McCain said she still wanted to know after Goldberg stated the Trump administration had a duty to comply with Democrat’s impeachment demands.
McCain suggested that evidence against Trump isn’t as “damning as Democrats” allege.
“By the way, if I were in the fox hole, I’d want Trey Gowdy in there with me,” she concluded.
