Eric McCormack and Debra Messing are in full retreat after finding their fellow Hollywood arrow-slingers are not behind them in their efforts to identify and blacklist conservatives in Tinseltown.

The co-stars of “Will & Grace” had tweeted out on August 30 their calls for the Hollywood Reporter to print a list of Trump supporters attending a Beverly Hills fundraiser. Their desires to dox conservatives in the entertainment business were subsequently being compared to the notorious communist witch hunts in Hollywood during the McCarthyism era of the 1950s.

Following the ongoing backlash the two have drawn from peers, they are trying to rewrite their script, weakly portraying themselves as victims who have been misunderstood.

“I want to be clear about my social media post from last week, which has been misinterpreted in a very upsetting way,” McCormack wrote on Twitter. “I absolutely do not support blacklists or discrimination of any kind, as anyone who knows me would attest. I’d simply like to understand where Trump’s major donations are coming from, which is a matter of public record. I am holding myself responsible for making educated and informed decisions that I can morally and ethically stand by and to do that, transparency is essential.”

Messing agreed with her “me too”, adding: “I couldn’t have said it better.”

It all started with these malicious tweets …

Actor Randy Quaid was just one actor who publicly called for a retraction from McCormack and Messing …

Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of “The View” gave McCormack and Messing a tongue lashing on Tuesday, saying, “Your idea of who you don’t want to work with is your personal business. Do not encourage people to print out lists because the next list that comes out your name will be on and then people will be coming after you. In this country, people can vote for who they want to, that is one of the great rights of this country. You don’t have to like it.

But you — we don’t go after people because we don’t like who they voted for. We don’t go after them that way. We can talk about issues and stuff, but we don’t print out lists.”

“Last time people did this, people started killing themselves. This is not a good idea,” Goldberg added.

In a Fox News episode of “The Five,” Katie Pavlich and Geraldo Rivera were reminded of another recent incident in which Democrats tried to gain political points by outing Trump supporters in Texas, only to have it backfire on them.

“Katie, this reminds me of the Castro brothers,” Rivera said. “Joaquin, the brother of Julian the presidential candidate, outing all the Trump supporters in San Antonio. Is this the new tactic?”

“Well, they weren’t just Trump supporters,” Pavlich said. “The ironic thing about them outing Trump supporters in El Paso is that a lot of people on the list were actually Castro supporters as well, who had given donations to him. They donate to Republicans and Democrats based on their right to do so and, yet it backfired.

“So when Debra Messing calls for the list of Trump supporters to be released, she is not doing it for the good of the country, for some good cause. She is doing it so these people in Hollywood can’t work again. There is an underground movement in Hollywood. It’s been there for 30 years, about conservatives who work in Hollywood who stay quiet and do their jobs. They can’t come out publicly and talk about politics even though you see it at awards show and the left is allowed to talk about it whenever they want and shove it down your throat. When it comes to having a different point of view, Hollywood actresses like Debra Messing and people who have a lot more credibility and power than she does in Hollywood think that you should believe in leftism, that you have a monolithic thought process. And if you don’t, we are going to harass you and print your phone number and address and your family will be harassed and you will never work a day again.”
