April Ryan blames Trump for backlash to Biden’s mangled war tale

For the Trump Derangement Syndrome crowd, every ill that befalls the nation is the fault of President Donald Trump.

Even if we’re talking about the latest gaffe from confused former Vice President Joe Biden.

Looking to run cover for Biden after the Washington Post exposed the current front-runner in the polls for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination for mangling a war story, CNN analyst April Ryan blamed Trump.

Ryan, the White House correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks, was on CNN’s “OutFront” Thursday evening and she tried to shift the focus away from Biden by pointing to a “climate of lies” allegedly brought on by the president.

The assertion coming in a climate of “Fake News.”

“What you have to look at — we are in a climate of lies being thrown at us from the president of the United States, and we’re so hypersensitive about issues of lies,” Ryan said. “People who are prone to gaffes, we are now holding them to the same standard, putting a bright spotlight on — looking at it as a lie, like this president tells, versus saying, ‘Oh, that’s Joe Biden. He’s prone to gaffing.'”

Except Biden’s latest screw-up went beyond a gaffe, as the Post reported that the war story the candidate recalled was wrong in practically every detail.

“In the space of three minutes, Biden got the time period, the location, the heroic act, the type of medal, the military branch and the rank of the recipient wrong, as well as his own role in the ceremony,” the newspaper reported.

What’s worse is that when Biden was made aware of this, he couldn’t understand how that could be, insisting that he got the “essence” of the story right.

Biden told a New Hampshire campaign crowd that a 4-star general asked him to go to Kunar, Afghanistan, while he was vice president to award a Silver Star medal to a Navy captain who had rappelled a 60-foot ravine under fire to retrieve the body of a fallen comrade.

He added that the captain was reluctant to take the award, saying the service member said, “Sir, I don’t want the damn thing! Do not pin it on me, Sir! Please, Sir. Do not do that! He died. He died!”

As the paper noted, the 76-year-old Biden was confusing three separate incidents, conflating details from each to weave a singular story.

All of which is forgivable to Ryan. After all, it was sooo long ago — all the way back to 2008.

“Was it something that it’s been so long and he just couldn’t get the story right or was it an out-and-out lie?” Ryan asked, oblivious to the impact on what’s left of her integrity. “That’s the question.”

“We have someone in the White House who we know is a liar point-blank, and now this person who is running for president is known to gaffe,” she explained. “He needs to get it right if he tells a story, but was it intentional? That’s the question. And I don’t think it was.”

Keeping in mind, this is the same cabal that regularly questions Trump’s mental health.
