Lindsey Graham rips Dems for partisan excuse to obstruct immigration reform: ‘They hate Trump’

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., has finally figured out why Democrats so vehemently challenge every last thing President Donald Trump tries to do to improve things in the United States.

“They hate Trump.”

Appearing Tuesday on “Fox & Friends,” Graham was responding to Democrats suing the Trump administration over the ending of the Flores agreement — this being the 1980s court ruling that limited migrant children from being detained more than 20 days, requiring federal authorities to send them to care programs.

The administration announced last week that it was scrapping the Flores agreement, which is being used as a “loophole” to circumvent immigration laws, to allow migrant families to be detained longer as their cases are being considered, Fox News reported.

Nineteen Democratic states and the District of Columbia are suing, and Graham said these states “are supporting the magnets of illegal immigration.”

“The reason we are being overrun is two reasons,” he explained. “If you come here and claim asylum, your hearing is three years away and you never show up… if you bring a minor child, we can only hold the child for 20 days.”

“Since you don’t want to separate families, we’ll let the entire family go,” Graham said. “So they’re continuing a bad practice. Shame on these states and shame on the District of Columbia. Congress should change our laws to allow you to hold minor children and their families long enough to process their claims so you don’t let them out into the interior of the country.”

Fox News co-host Steve Doocy asked Graham why the immigration issue has become so politicized.

“They hate Trump!” the senator said, without missing a beat. “They. Hate. Trump.”

As Doocy explained that we face a humanitarian crisis on our southern border, for the third time Graham said that Democrats hate Trump, speaking slowly to ensure clarity.

When Doocy stressed that people are sent to Congress to fix the nation’s problems, Graham interjected, “Don’t send people who hate Trump.”

“I have been working on immigration for 10 years,” he added. “I’m willing to deal with a DACA population, give them a place to stay in our country, a pathway to citizenship.  I’m willing to spend money in Central America to make life better. I’ve done everything I know to do, I’ve turned blue in the face.

“I can’t get one Democrat to agree with me that you should apply for asylum in Central America, or Mexico, not the United States,” he continued. “I can’t get one Democrat to agree to allow children to be held with their families humanely for, 40, 50, or 100 days so we can process their claims.”

Drawing the only logical conclusion to the obstruction from Democrats when to comes to illegal immigrants, Graham declared, “They literally want them to be released in the United States.”

“They will not work with me. They will not work with President Trump,” he concluded. “I am dumbfounded as to why we can’t find [a] compromise.”
