Duck! Here comes the Leftist dogpile on Trump after he blasted ‘black’ Cummings

Leftists are predictably going after President Donald Trump for his Saturday tweets targeting Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD).

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) took to Twitter to call Trump’s Cummings attack “racist” in a tweet celebrating the Maryland congressman as a “champion.”

“@RepCummings is a champion in the Congress and the country for civil rights and economic justice, a beloved leader in Baltimore, and deeply valued colleague. We all reject racist attacks against him and support his steadfast leadership,” she tweeted.

Many in the mainstream media are also piling onto the “racist” argument with their responses.

“Just going to share this map of Rep. Cummings’ district for no particular reason. A great slice of Maryland with urban, suburban and rural areas,” wrote CNN host Brian Stelter.

CNN’s Victor Blackwell also defended Cummings against Trump’s attacks. The news anchor seemed particularly affected by Trump calling Cummings’ Maryland district a “disgusting, rat and rodent-infested mess.”

“Infested. That’s usually reserved for references to rodents and insects, but we’ve seen the president invoke infestation to criticize lawmakers before,” Blackwell said on “CNN Newsroom with Victor Blackwell and Christi Paul.”

Blackwell then showed examples of Trump going after other minority members of Congress.

“Just two weeks ago President Trump attacked 4 minority congresswoman, why don’t they go back to the totally broken and prime infested places from which they came?” he said.

Others also connected the attacks on Cummings to Trump’s critiques of the congressional “squad” — which consists of Reps. Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley.

“Trump, who recently attacked four congresswoman of color because he said they trash-talked America, calls one of America’s oldest cities ‘a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess,'” tweeted MSNBC political analyst Philip Rucker.

The New York Times’ Peter Baker noted in an article that the president “has a history of characterizing black areas or African nations in terms like ‘filthy.'”

Many conservatives have meanwhile been taking to Twitter to defend Trump’s harsh words about Cummings’ district and to back him up with proof that West Baltimore is falling apart.

The left cries racism in this situation because it helps to divert from the real issues. Trump’s attacks on Cummings were based on the congressman’s ridiculous behavior during a hearing with acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan where Cummings put on a show for cameras and scolded McAleenan for trying to handle a situation members of Congress like Cummings ignore week after week.

Cummings is also wasting his time trying to subpoena White House aides over the alleged use of private emails for business purposes.

In other words, he’s yet another member of Congress doing nothing except playing to the far-left crowd while ignoring real issues. That is far more offensive than anything Trump could ever tweet.
