As Congress dithers, CBP chief declares ‘full-blown emergency’ at border, release staggering May numbers

Migrants, mostly from Central America, que to board a van which will take them to a processing center, on May 16, 2019, in El Paso, Texas. - About 1,100 migrants from Central America and other countries are crossing into the El Paso border sector each day. As obsessed congressional Democrats continue to chase after President Donald Trump like Wile E. Coyote chasing after the Road Runner, the crisis along the border continues to worsen.

According to newly released data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, in May alone the agency apprehended 132,887 illegal aliens crossing into the United States illegally. This represents a whopping 270 percent increase from the 47,980 illegals apprehended in January.

Since the start of the year, there have been almost 440,000 total apprehensions, which is “more than the entire population of Cleveland, Ohio,” as reported by CBS News:

“The previous high total of apprehensions on the Southwest border for May over the past seven years was 60,683, occurring in 2014, which is less than half of this May’s apprehensions,” CBP announced in a press release Wednesday.

“CBP has seen an increase in all key areas of apprehension at and between ports of entry, including Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC); Family Units (FUA); and Single Adults.”

The press release further noted that “many” of these apprehensions were of large groups, i.e., caravans. Whereas CBP encountered only two caravans in 2017 and 13 caravans in 2018, this year the agency has already run into a whopping 180 caravans:

“The two largest groups ever encountered by USBP were apprehended in May, groups of more than 400 and 1,000 people.”

“We are in a full-blown emergency, and I cannot say this stronger: The system is broken,” acting CBP Commissioner John Sanders reportedly said in a statement to the media.

In a series of tweets posted to his official account later that day, he warned that the situation along the border will remain “unsustainable” unless Congress supplies CBP with the “additional resources” needed to “confront this crisis.”

Look:

Are Democrats listening? Of course not. The most Democrats have done thus far is finally admit last month that a crisis does exist along the border. Keep in mind this admission was made after the Democrats had already spent months accusing the border crisis of being a “manufactured crisis.”

“Well, let me just say this. We’ve never not said that there was a crisis — there is a humanitarian crisis at the border, and some of it provoked by the actions taken by the administration,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had the audacity to say last month.

Even though it’s Democrats who’ve refused to fund the president’s border wall, who’ve tried to nullify his national emergency and who’ve placed an unreasonable limit on the number of detention beds that federal immigration authorities may use, of course Democrats blame Trump for the crisis.

Meanwhile, as the Democrats have sat here doing nothing but complaining about Trump and trying to push for his impeachment, Mexico is out here doing more for America’s border security than every sleazy congressional Democrat combined.

“Mexico officials intercept about 1,000 migrants on highway,” the Associated Press reported Wednesday.

Why is Mexico doing this? Because of the president’s threat to impose tariffs on the Latin American nation unless it gets its act together.

“The Mexican government has been under intense pressure from President Donald Trump to block the tens of thousands of migrants trudging north each month,” The Independent reported Tuesday.

“In recent weeks, the Mexican authorities have been breaking up migrant caravans and setting up round-the-clock roadblocks along common routes north. Detentions and deportations in Mexico are quickly multiplying.”

Thank you, Mexico. But no, Democrats like Pelosi don’t like the president’s successful tariff threats either.

“I don’t even think it rises to the level of policy, it’s notion-mongering, again. Let’s face what it is: It’s a distraction from the Mueller report,” the Russia-, Russia-, Russia-obsessed congressional Democrat leader asserted at a press conference Thursday.

Listen:

HERE’S WHAT YOU’RE MISSING …

It’s not clear what Democrats do like, besides open borders, infanticide and racism.

The president has for his part made it clear that he won’t back down.

“Mexico, you know, wants to make a deal,” he reportedly said Wednesday. “They have their entire delegation right now going over to probably the White House location to negotiate with our people.”

“The drugs that are coming in, the people that are coming in unchecked, they’re swamping our border. They’re coming up by the millions. Mexico can stop it. They have to stop it. Otherwise, we just won’t be able to do business. It’s a very simple thing.”

In tweets posted later that evening, he revealed that talks with Mexico would continue the following morning:
