Latino support for President Donald Trump has rocketed during the government shutdown over border wall funding, according to a new poll by the left-wing groups NPR/PBS/Marist.
The poll indicates that Trump’s approval rating among Latinos soared to 50% in January 2019 ― up 19 points since December 2018.
Republican strategist Gus Portela, who’s Puerto Rican, says this is because Hispanics recognize that President Trump is helping their community.
As BizPac Review reported, Hispanic unemployment rates are at a record low under Trump.
Strategist: Trump Is Helping Latinos
“This president has done historic strides to help the Latino community,” Portela told Fox & Friends.
The poll also noted that 63 percent of all adults surveyed want to see elected officials make compromises.
Gus Portela says Trump’s approval rating among Latinos would plunge if he caved in and did not build a border wall. This contradicts the mainstream media narrative that all Hispanics consider Trump’s wall “racist.”
If anything, law-abiding Latinos support the wall, because they realize that the MS-13 gang members, human traffickers, and drug smugglers who sneak across the porous border target the Hispanic community.
Portela applauded President Trump for trying to end the government shutdown by negotiating with Democrats. But, he notes, that Dems have continued with their obstructionism.
“He’s willing to make a deal, he’s willing to compromise,” Portela said. “But Democrats, on the other hand, they’re simply not. Democrats have not lived up to their word.”
Many Latinos Support the Border Wall
Many Hispanic-Americans support the wall. Just ask Steve Cortes, president of the National Hispanic Advisory Council for Trump.
Watching @RepDanCrenshaw on-air right now making eminent sense: wall barriers are an integral part of border protection, but not a panacea for all illegal migration. When Dems argue against the Wall because it won’t solve ALL problems, they prove their illogical intransigence.

Or the Daily Wire’s Ryan Saavedra.
I'm a Hispanic-American and I do NOT want illegal aliens in our country bringing their drugs & crime.
Kate Steinle died in her dad’s arms after being shot to death by a 5-time-deported illegal alien in a sanctuary city.
Obama's failure to protect our borders is what killed Kate

And director Robby Starbuck.
I am hispanic. Areas of border like Yuma where we built a wall under Obama saw illegal immigration cut by 90%. Israel cut illegal immigration by 99% because of their wall. Walls work. We can take true asylum requests at ports of entry and they can wait in custody for hearing.

Here’s a handy comprehensive list of groups who don’t want a border wall:
• Sex Traffickers
• Human Traffickers
• Drug Traffickers
• Drug Cartels
• MS13 and Other Gangs
• Central American Governments
• Economic *illegal* migrants
• Far left activists
• Elected Democrats— Robby Starbuck (@robbystarbuck) January 18, 2019

So does Senator Ted Cruz.
The American people gave us a clear mandate: secure the border and build the wall. @SenSchumer & Democrats have a decision to make: shut down the government or put party politics aside & work with us to defend America’s borders. #SchumerShutdown pic.twitter.com/DjvzIlOzdT

Add Senator Marco Rubio to the long list of Latinos who back Trump’s wall.
I am advocating for putting a wall on the border where most of the unlawful immigration is occurring & where most of the drugs which are killing Americans of every race & ethnicity is entering our country. If such an area exists on northern border we should secure it as well. https://t.co/SqNS8aDc99
