Laura Ingraham has some words of advice for Democrats thinking of running for the 2020 presidential nomination.
The Fox News host believes any Democrat thinking of squaring off against President Donald Trump needs to make nice with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
In a panel discussion on “The Ingraham Angle” on Thursday, the show’s host noted that the Democratic Party’s base is “moving everybody to the left” and freshman lawmakers like Ocasio-Cortez, New York’s self-proclaimed Democratic socialist, cannot be ignored.
“They’re all going to have to kiss Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s ring,” Ingraham said. “When they’re running for president, in one way or another, they’re going to kiss the ring. And she’s only been in town for seven days. That’s pretty amazing.”
In her opening monologue on Wednesday, Ingraham advised conservatives as well, warning that it’s a mistake “not to take her seriously, to brush her off as kind of a flash in the pan or an upstart.”
“She’s as close to a thought leader that the Democratic Party has today, and she has a massive social media following. She’s both charismatic, and she’s committed to transforming both our economic system and our culture,” she said, touching on the 29-year-old lawmaker’s recent tweet attacking her and Fox News colleague Tucker Carlson.
“As a single woman, I felt so offended by what she said about me,” Ingraham said in the show. “Woman to woman, as a single mother.”
But the Fox News host warned that the “new left-wing progressive Puritans aim to shame” and are not interested in debating policy, though she did invite Ocasio-Cortez to be a guest on her show.
“If you think I’m exaggerating, I’m not. Because when you say the wrong thing in Ocasio-Cortez world, they put you in detention hall and you never get out. Remember, they believe that they are right and you’re evil,” Ingraham said.
“And moderates even seem petrified of taking on these new progressives,” she added. “And Republicans ought to take the progressive takeover of the Democratic Party very seriously and offer a strong counter narrative.”
