Former Vice President Joe Biden, a man known for his loud mouth, may have single-handedly damaged his chances of potentially winning the 2020 Democrat presidential election primary.
How so? By running his notoriously gaffe-prone mouth, as usual …
Speaking with a reporter about the government shutdown, which he naturally blames on President Donald Trump (though it’s actually Democrats who caused it), the former VP pointed to two specific conservative commentators for their allegedly negative influence on the president.
“Republicans overwhelmingly voted to keep the government open, then Rush Limbaugh and the conservative blonde woman says he’s losing his base, and so he’s changed his mind,” Biden said.
He was wrong. While Senate Republicans did pass a stop-gap bill that would have averted a government shutdown, House Republicans passed their own omnibus spending bill that would have done the same in addition to funding a southern U.S. border wall.
Because of obstruction by Senate Democrats, including Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, that bill remains perpetually stalled. As a result, the government entered into a shutdown on Dec. 22.
Second, that “conservative blonde woman” Biden referenced has a name — most people suspect he was referring to conservative commentator Ann Coulter — and his refusal to address the so-called “conservative blonde woman” by her name upset a lot of people, including his fellow Democrats.
To them, his dismissal of Coulter as just some “conservative blonde woman” reeked of sexism and misogyny, which is a big no-no for a party that purports to be champions of women.
Ann Coulter is The Worst™️, but this is not a good look, Joe. Her awfulness doesn’t give anyone a pass on being sexist or (in other cases) transphobic. Stop it. https://t.co/5lxl3q6qpm

Okay so like…this is one of the problems I have with Joe Biden! I seriously think he is a sexist. I’m assuming he’s talking about Laura Ingraham?? Maybe? Never really a fan of just calling people “the conservative blonde woman”. Like if you’re gonna criticize, know their name https://t.co/VRY01949b3

I like you Mr. Biden but naming Limbaugh by name and calling Coulter ‘the conservative blonde woman’ is misogynist and dismissive of the clear influence she still has in politics. Please do better.

Small quibble here: Biden can name Rush but the best he can do is “conservative blonde woman?” Seriously @JoeBiden that is tone deaf. You diminish women as a group — including your opponents — with this.

@Morning_Joe is Joe Biden going to sacrifice himself as foil of neo-liberal, dismissive, obnoxiousness against women respective to Trump to clear the way for a woman president, or does he really believe tapping ‘dragon energy’ by calling Ann Coulter, ‘some blond woman’ is the…

Man, @JoeBiden, I hate that you’re making me defend Ann Coulter in any way…but, all women have names and are more than the color of their hair. Geesh.
— CJ Griffin, Esq. (@CJGriffinEsq) January 5, 2019
As horrible as she is @JoeBiden should use Ann Coulter’s name.
— Anne Leader (@anneleaderegval) January 5, 2019
Funny @JoeBiden names the man’s name but not the woman, instead describing her. I’m no Coulter fan, but that’s just sexist.

Leave it to Joe Biden to say something everybody’s been saying for weeks, but manage to let his casual sexism – sorry, ‘traditional upbringing’ – show.

Leave it to the one and only Joe Biden to offend his own party. And this only a month after he touted himself as “the most qualified” Democrat to take on Trump in 2020.
“I’ll be as straight with you as I can: I think I’m the most qualified person in the country to be president,” he said at a book tour stop last month at the University of Montana. “The issues that we face as a country today are the issues that have been in my wheelhouse, that I’ve worked on my whole life.”
“No one should run for the job unless they believe that they would be qualified doing the job. I’ve been doing this my whole adult life, and the issues that are the most consequential relating to the plight of the middle class and our foreign policy are things that I have — even my critics would acknowledge, I may not be right but I know a great deal about it.”
While that’s all fine and dandy, the former VP should keep in mind going forward that no amount of qualifications will save him if the Democrat base decides he’s a sexist.
As it stands, many among the base already view him as a sexist pig. In a column two years ago, one HuffPost columnist warned, “Joe Biden 2020 is a terrible idea in a post-Weinstein America.”
A compilation of some of that behavior may be seen below:
To stand even a slight chance of winning the 2020 primary — let alone defeating Trump — Biden will have to somehow shed this image of a creep and sexist. And so far he’s not doing a good job at that, according to social media.
What? Either @JoeBiden is another sexist jerk on par with @realDonaldTrump or we the people are too-dumb to understand Biden’s insulting language. Be not surprised when @realDonaldTrump is reelected in 2020. Yea, that D*** black brown “blonde woman.” Yea, coded lague is ~ a myth! pic.twitter.com/ZQ8hTKGPfi

So I hear the operation of @JoeBiden is set to launch for 2020. Rumor is it’s called “operation creepy Uncle Joe for president”. Now that’s just the rumor but one could speculate.

Big old NOPE to Biden as president. Nobody is going to vote for a guy who has been called creepy & helped Clarence Thomas get on the supreme court after attacking Anita Hill. Harris/Hirono 2020.
