Retired admiral who wrote blistering op-ed tells Trump ‘revoke my clearance, too,’ resigns in fit of rage

A self-professed member of of the Deep State resigned from his post within the Trump administration last month, thus essentially saving President Donald Trump the trouble of having to fire him himself.

Retired Navy Adm. William H. McRaven resigned from the Pentagon’s Defense Innovation Board on Aug. 20, four days after outing himself as a Deep State member in an op-ed for The Washington Post.

“Through your actions, you have embarrassed us in the eyes of our children, humiliated us on the world stage and, worst of all, divided us as a nation,” the retired general had written for the Post. “If you think for a moment that your McCarthy-era tactics will suppress the voices of criticism, you are sadly mistaken. The criticism will continue until you become the leader we prayed you would be.”

McRaven’s beef with Trump stemmed from his decision to revoke the security clearance of former CIA Director John Brennan over the Obama-era official’s partisan attacks on him and his administration.

Listen to White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announcing the revocation of Brennan’s clearance below:

“I would consider it an honor if you would revoke my security clearance as well, so I can add my name to the list of men and women who have spoken up against your presidency,” McRaven sarcastically added in his column.

Many suspect that McRaven’s voluntary resignation from the Trump administration bodes well for the president for several notable reasons.

Launched by then-Secretary of Defense Ash Carter in 2016, the DIB is for the most part a left-wing extension of the government designed to advise the Defense Department on technology issues.

“On the whole, political donations from board members skewed heavily liberal, with members donating almost $2.4 million to democratic candidates and political action committees (PACs), compared to just over $236,000 to GOP causes, according to disclosed campaign finance figures going back to 1998,” Defense One noted.

McRaven is himself clearly left-wing, as evidenced by his stunning decision to publish criticisms of the president (who’s essentially his boss) in an op-ed published in one of nation’s most liberal newspapers. Having him out of the way will therefore be beneficial to the president, many on social media suspect:

Liberals, of course, feel differently. They have pointed to McRaven’s past to suggest the Trump administration just lost a “true patriot.”

McRaven reportedly served as the head of U.S. Special Operations Command when the Obama administration found and killed Sept. 11 mastermind Osama bin Laden in 2011.

That’s nice and all, but you know who’s not as much of a fan of Brennan as McRaven? The guy who actually killed bin Laden, former Navy SEAL Rob O’Neill:

Just saying …
