School bans dad from taking daughter to prom because of age rules

A high school rejected a father from taking his daughter to a prom in Fayette County, Ga., set for Saturday.

Ronald Toussaint’s 17-year-old daughter Ariell Toussaint was “actually pretty upset” after not being allowed to take him as her date to her senior prom, reported the New York Post. The Fayette County High School student wanted to take her dad because she views him as the “best man.” The principal shot down the father-daughter date since school rules do not allow a student to bring someone 20 years or older to prom.

A student cannot bring a parent as a date, school district officials told WSB-TV 2.

“It should be ‘my child’ comes first,” Ronald said. “Right? And whatever she needs. If she needs me to come to the prom with her — and it makes her feel comfortable — then that should be fine.”

The school policy also does not allow students to bring a date who is younger than in ninth grade.

The event will be chaperoned by faculty.
