Harvard lawyer debunks Dem claims about FISA memo: ‘I don’t see it… in 50 years of doing these kinds of cases’

Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz debunked the claim made by Democrats that the release of the controversial House Intelligence Committee memo would endanger national security.

“People were saying this memo — the country would crumble and fall if this memo was released that has all kinds of important national security content,” Dershowitz said in an appearance on Fox Business Network.

“I don’t see it, I almost never see it,” he continued. “In 50 years of doing these kinds of cases, the claims of censorship, national security classification are almost always overblown.”

Dershowitz called for a “non-partisan investigation” — if that’s even possible in today’s polarizing times — saying the American public is being “deprived of the objective truth by the constant clash of partisan narratives.”

After noting that the released memo is a “secondary source,” Dershowitz said it constitutes “probable cause to let us go further.”

“The American public is entitled to see the entire thing,” he said.

The law professor compared the release of the memo to the Pentagon Papers, a top secret study of U.S. involvement in Vietnam, saying the country has survived quite well since then.

Releasing more of the FISA application data “would not endanger national security,” Dershowitz said.

“These are hearsay descriptions of what Republicans claim is in the application,” he said. “We are hearing hearsay descriptions of what the Democrats claim — we should see the real thing.”
