Melania Trump has been unfairly attacked since the day she became America’s First Lady.
No First Lady has ever been savaged by the press like Melania Trump and for the pettiest of reasons.
Whether it’s wearing stiletto heels to survey Hurricane Harvey damage in Texas.
The media coverage can get quite… spiky.
She’s been attacked for wearing hats while providing relief to disaster victims.
Crossing her arms during the official White House portrait (despite others doing the same).
Or supposedly being a captive in her own marriage, such as the smart-aleck #FreeMelania meme suggests.
Melania Trump has seen it all. The past week there’s been a juvenile preoccupation on the part of the mainstream press to chase the antics of a porn star who claimed to have an illicit affair with Donald Trump after the couple were married.
The press used the scurrilous allegation, which the porn star legally denied ever happened, to make much ado about nothing in regards to Melania’s decision not to attend the economic conference in Davos, Switzerland.
Finally, Melania Trump has had enough. Fed up with the salacious and unfounded reporting, her spokesperson issued a scathing statement to the press:
“BREAKING:The laundry list of salacious & flat-out false reporting about Mrs. Trump by tabloid publications & TV shows has seeped into “main stream media” reporting. She is focused on her family & role as FLOTUS – not the unrealistic scenarios being peddled daily by the fake news,” she tweeted.
The First Lady did not accompany her husband to Davos to attend the economic summit, and reportedly changing her plans the day before they were to depart due to unspecified scheduling conflicts. Instead she went to Palm Beach, after paying her respects at the Holocaust Museum.
One would think that in this day and age a woman is empowered enough to make her own decisions. She doesn’t need to wait on her husband’s every beck-and-call, even if he is the President of the United States. After all, did the media impose this standard with the glaring political marriage-of-convenience of Bill and Hillary Clinton? It did not.
Despite the constant barrage of media attacks, Melania Trump polls favorably with Americans. Maybe it’s time the press got the memo and start treating the First Lady with the dignity and respect that she deserves.
