Republicans who attended DACA meeting say they don’t recall Trump ‘sh*thole’ remark

“Sh*tholegate” just keeps getting weirder.

After not specifically denying that he used the word to describe African nations and possibly Haiti, then somewhat denying it in a Friday tweet by calling it “not the language used,” President Trump is now getting the backing of two GOP senators who say they “don’t recall” him “specifically” using the term to describe these, er, paradises on earth during their Thursday meeting.

“We do not recall the President saying these comments specifically but what he did call out was the imbalance in our current immigration system, which does not protect American workers and our national interest,” Republican Sens. Tom Cotton and David Perdue said in a joint statement Friday.

Even Sen. Lindsey Graham, a frequent Trump critic who seems to have come around to the president lately, didn’t directly accuse the president of using the term, but he didn’t deny it either.

“Following comments by the President, I said my piece directly to him yesterday,” the South Carolina senator, who attended the meeting, said. “The President and all those attending the meeting know what I said and how I feel. I’ve always believed that America is an idea, not defined by its people but by its ideals.”

But South Carolina’s other senator insisted Graham told him the president did indeed use the term.

CNN reported:

However, Republican Sen. Tim Scott, the junior senator from South Carolina, told the Charleston Post and Courier that Graham told him the reported comments are “basically accurate.”

During a discussion about whether the United States should extend protections for immigrants from El Salvador, Haiti, and some African countries, President Trump reportedly let an obvious observable truth escape his lips before filtering it through the lens of political correctness, allegedly asking, “Why are we having all these people from sh*thole countries come here?”

Democrats and hand-wringing Republicans have been pointing and shrieking ever since, although they’ve yet to specifically describe, using logical terms, why exactly the president is wrong.

Sometimes the truth hurts, but that doesn’t change whether or not it’s the truth.
