Callista Gingrich, the wife of former House Speaker and strong Trump supporter Newt Gingrich, was nominated by President Trump to become U.S. Ambassador to the Vatican.
Despite a few hurdles in the process, the Senate voted to confirm her appointment on Monday by an overwhelming 70-23 margin.

Gingrich had the support of several Democratic senators, but some conservatives took issue with her belief that some climate change is “due to human behavior.”
She also stated that the U.S. should “lead the world” on environmental protection, right before Trump pulled out of the Paris Climate Accords.
The controversy had gotten so heated that Gingrich almost withdrew her name from nomination.
Instead, she’ll represent her country to the most liberal pope in history.

Some, however, take issue with the selection, and it has little to do with her qualifications.

In 2012, Newt Gingrich’s ex-wife, Marianne, told ABC News and The Washington Post that her ex-husband had asked her about the possibility of an “open marriage” after she found out about his ongoing affair with Callista Bisek, his current wife.
He then proceeded to deliver a speech called “The Demise of American Culture” to a group of Pennsylvania Republican women.
Nobody is defending Newt and Callista’s actions then, but from the reaction below it’s obvious that forgiveness isn’t a liberal virtue.
