Just one day after the NBA champion Golden State Warriors were talking amongst themselves about whether or not they should grace President Trump with their presence before being promptly disinvited by the president, the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins took a whole other approach.
Respect for the office of the President of the United States.
The Penguins, who have won back-to-back Stanley Cup titles and consequently have already visited the White House under former-President Obama, made their intentions clear in a statement Sunday morning:
The Pittsburgh Penguins have a statement regarding the team's upcoming White House visit.

“The Pittsburgh Penguins respect the institution of the Office of the President, and the long tradition of championship teams visiting the White House,” the statement read. “We attended White House ceremonies after previous championships – touring the historic building and visiting briefly with Presidents George H.W. Bush and Barack Obama – and have accepted an invitation to attend again this year.
“Any agreement or disagreement with a president’s politics, policies or agenda can be expressed in other ways. However, we very much respect the rights of other individuals and groups to express themselves as they see fit.”
The Penguins’ statement seems logical and fair to all sides, right? We’re guessing plenty of conservative-leaning sports stars made White House visits with President Obama, a man who they respected for his office but with whom they vehemently disagreed on policy. Shouldn’t the same be the case for the other side?
Apparently not, of course, otherwise this article would end right here. However, the liberal race-baiters have to go out and, well, race bait.
President Trump tweeted his approval Sunday morning:

And plenty of others expressed their happiness that not every sport has lost its collective mind:
#Caps fan but just gained more respect for the #Penguins today for accepting their invitation to the White House. #TaketheKnee (or don't)

And since Keith Olbermann is ticked off, we’re pretty sure the Pens did something right…
This isn't going to cut it boys. The sports world just changed this morning. You're either for the 1st Amendment or for Trump. Can't be both https://t.co/HVkop3PAHQ

But of course, if you’re a leftist who sees everything through the lens of race, you had to make this out to be about your favorite issue.

And there were plenty more where that came from:
Look at the race demographics between the NFL/NBA and NHL and that'll tell you everything you need to know about Pens press release…

Please(d) to inform you that the 93% white NHL is in my good books, while the 70% black NFL is on the 'Sons of Bitches' list. #TakeTheKnee! https://t.co/EB6mSlTrM7

Aww look, the Penguins want everyone to know that they still support the white supremacist in the White House! https://t.co/dYCTRIVhr1

"Look, look! The mostly white sport still likes me!"

HEY @NHL half of you are Canadian. Do the right thing. Tell Trump to jam it. https://t.co/BYChOql0BG— Brenda Of The North (@BrendaJeanCDN) September 24, 2017
Wow I'm so shocked a team in a league that's >95% white would do this. https://t.co/0tTl6W4G52
