Trump family heads to Camp David for Father’s Day

The president has been using his own Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach as a retreat but chose Camp David as his Father’s Day getaway.

It’s the first official visit for the New York born and bred president, who had some early reservations about the property.

“Camp David is very rustic, it’s nice, you’d like it,” Trump said in an interview with a European journalist prior to taking office.

“You know how long you’d like it? For about 30 minutes,” he quipped.

Melania Trump said she was looking forward to it as a weekend of family fun.

The trip comes on the heels of a well-received speech Trump delivered in the Little Havana section of Miami, in which he announced a modification of his predecessor’s renormalization of relations with Cuba.

Supporters wished him well on his long-deserved retreat.

But at least one hoped the place had been de-bugged prior to the first family’s arrival — but he wasn’t necessarily talking about the creepy-crawly kind.

Along those same lines, Trump fans posted other warnings for the first family.

The presidential retreat, located 62 miles north-northwest of Washington, D.C. in the Catoctin Mountain Park, is officially known as the Naval Support Facility Thurmont, but was re-dubbed Camp David by President Dwight Eisenhower in honor of his father and grandson, both named David.

In fact, Eisenhower met with then-President John F. Kennedy there just three months into Kennedy’s administration.

Camp David was a favored weekend retreat for many presidents, including John F. Kennedy and George W. Bush.
