Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell was outed for cheating on his wife in a social media post that also prompted an MLB investigation into allegations of abuse.

Melisa Russell posted a photo of herself on her Instagram page Wednesday implying something was amiss with her marriage.
“Being free to be able to make your own choices for your own happiness beats being cheated on, lied to, & disrespected any day,” read the caption by the 23 year-old who married Russell, also 23, last June.
The post and a subsequent comment were soon deleted from her account, and comments were turned off as well.

But not before Melisa’s best friend reportedly accused Russell of hitting his wife in front of their kids, according to Larry Brown Sports.
“Hateful is cheating on your wife, mentally & physically abusing her. Melisa didn’t want that out but I’ll say it. He hit her. In front of Aiden and Mila. But let’s worry about Melisa being ‘hateful,'” read the now deleted comment.

Hours after the post, the MLB opened an investigation into the alleged domestic violence by the Chicago Cubs shortstop, according to an MLB official on Thursday, ESPN reported.

Melisa’s Instagram account appears to have all previous photos of the couple removed.
