Turns out, former FBI Director James Comey’s opening statement to the Senate Intelligence Committee is a big “nothingburger,” as least insofar as Democratic attempts to hang ridiculous obstruction of justice charges on President Trump are concerned.
So on Wednesday, whoever runs the Republican National Committee’s Twitter account couldn’t help but have a little fun at their wishful thinking.
“Trying to find something of substance in Comey’s opening statement,” said the tweet from the official RNC account. Helpfully included was a GIF of Ethan Hawke looking through a scope in the Western “In a Valley of Violence.”

In its official response, RCN Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a statement, as reported by the Washington Examiner. “President Trump was right. Director Comey’s statement reconfirmed what the president has been saying all along — he was never under investigation.”
President Trump’s lawyer, Marc Kasowitz, also weighed in, saying in a statement that the president “is pleased that Mr. Comey has finally publicly confirmed his private reports that the President was not under investigation in any Russia probe.”
The statement also says that President Trump “feels completely and totally vindicated,” and “is eager to continue to move forward with his agenda.”
Of course, libs weren’t too impressed with the RNC’s attempt at humor. And why should they be? Today isn’t going to be a good day for them.
the GOP is cancelled.
