Conservative watchdogs are fighting “fire with fire” by targeting advertisers of MSNBC commentator Rachel Maddow and other liberal news shows.

The move comes shortly after the George Soros-funded Media Matters pressured sponsors to drop their ads from Sean Hannity‘s Fox News show. That boycott was largely unsuccessful and failed to intimidate most of his sponsors.

For decades, conservatives sat back and did nothing while liberal activists silenced them by targeting their sponsors and customers with boycotts.

Media Matters played a key role in getting Bill O’Reilly fired from Fox News in April after 90 advertisers buckled under pressure and pulled their ads.

But the Media Research Center and the Media Equality Project have had enough and are turning the tables.

“Fighting fire with fire is just to point out this can go both ways,” Brian Maloney told Hannity (see video). Maloney and Melanie Morgan co-launched the Media Equalizer website.

Maloney continued: “We’re trying to show that if you’re going to play this game, you will live or die by this sword. I don’t think the left is used to the right firing back on this. Maddow has created a cottage industry out of linking every oligarch in Russia to Trump … It’s mainstream because it’s on MSNBC.”

After Media Matters published a list of Hannity’s sponsors to pressure them to stop advertising on his show, Media Equalizer returned the favor and published a list of Rachel Maddow’s advertisers along with contact names, emails and phone numbers.

“As long as Media Matters continues to attack conservatives, we will return the same kindness,” Melanie Morgan said.

On Wednesday, the Media Research Project also published a list of advertisers that support leftist shows and personalities, including:

  • All In with Chris Hayes on MSNBC
  • Hardball with Chris Matthews
  • AM Joy on MSNBC
  • Anderson Cooper 360
  • CNN Tonight with Don Lemon
  • Fareed Zakaria GPS

MRC founder Brent Bozell said his group is closely watching liberal shows and their sponsors, saying “We will take no prisoners.” In a statement, Bozell vowed:

The radical left’s effort to silence conservative media by targeting their advertisers with coordinated smear campaigns has gone unanswered, but today is the day the conservative movement fights back, but with a big difference: We’ll tell the truth. And we’ll take no prisoners.

Today we are putting 10 shows and their major corporate sponsors on notice that we are watching their every move. Every time one of their on-air personalities go beyond political commentary and engage in smear and hate, we are going to unleash an army of activists to contact these advertisers by phone and through social media to ask them why they are advertising on programs that are so biased, repulsive and morally bankrupt.

Meanwhile, supporters reacted by saying it’s about time conservatives fought back.
