‘You can’t be cute about tapes’: Lindsey Graham scolds President Trump for being ‘inappropriate’

Sen. Lindsey Graham is still criticizing President Trump’s use of social media to get his unfiltered message out to the people. This week on NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” the South Carolina Republican took Trump to task for implying that he had recordings of the president and former FBI Director James Comey.

Could he please get off that tired subject and find something new?

He told “MTP” host Chuck Todd that Trump should avoid the appearance of impeding the FBI’s investigation on Russian interference with the 2016 presidential election.

News that ‘the crash that killed Tucker Carlson was no accident’ was no mistake … it was fake

“If there are any tapes they have to be turned over,” Graham said. “You can’t be cute about tapes.”

Todd asked if the president’s tweet about tapes and Comey “constituted a threat” against the former FBI director.

“I think it was inappropriate,” he said. Graham believed that the president was not the target of any agency investigation on Russian collusion.

“But this tweet has to be answered,” he added. “I would advise the president not to tweet or comment about the investigation as we go forward.”

On the subject of Comey’s replacement, Graham said he would like to see someone nominated “outside the political lane,” preferably someone from within the agency itself.

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, a Republican from Texas, in on Trump’s short list of names under consideration.

“John Cornyn under normal circumstances would be a superb choice to be FBI director,” Graham said. “But these are not normal circumstances.”
