FBI Director James Comey learned he was fired late Tuesday from television reports as he was addressing agents at the FBI field office in Los Angeles, according to Fox News sources.
According to The New York Times, Comey thought he was being punked and appeared amused at first.
Shortly after the news broke, he was handed a letter from President Donald Trump.
Reaction to Trump’s decision to fire Comey is all over the map with a highly partisan divide, but the fact that nobody should be fired via television was a universal sentiment as reports rolled out.
Trump was mad, fired Comey because he wouldn’t utter three important words, source says
Watch a Fox News panel discuss the details and read the letter below:
No one should find out via the television that they’ve been fired. If true, that’s poor form and plain unprofessional. #Comey

Dear Director Comey:
I have received the attached letters from the Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General of the United States recommending your dismissal as the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. I have accepted their recommendation and you are hereby terminated and removed from office, effective immediately.
While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the Bureau.
It is essential that we find new leadership that restores public trust and confidence in its vital law enforcement mission.
I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.
DONALD J. TRUMP
