In Weld County, Colorado, a bombshell report alleges that a teacher at the local high school has been placed on paid leave after photos circulated online showing students smashing a pinata that had President Donald Trump’s picture on it.
The teachers name has not been released yet, but Weld County School District RE-5J Johnstown-Milliken said they will launch an investigation into the situation on Monday.
“This was an incredibly disrespectful act that does not reflect the values of Roosevelt High School or the school district,” Superintendent Martin Foster said. The school district also released a statement on their Facebook page explaining the situation and what they planned to do going forward.
Leslie Hollywood, whose daughter attends Roosevelt High School, sent out a Facebook message showing photos of the pinata with president Trump’s picture on it.
She added that some alleged the other side of the pinata had the president of Mexico’s picture on it, but she didn’t upload any photos proving those claims to be true.
“It is disturbing that this would be happening in a school setting,” Hollywood told CBS Denver in an interview. “Why divide people? Why do this? There are so many other ways we can address politics in schools.”
“Political discourse right now, in this country, is already so strained and so angry. I wouldn’t of cared if it was Obama’s face on that pinata, or if it had been Hillary Clinton’s face. It doesn’t matter. This is not how we should be teaching our children politics in this country,” she said.
Hollywood added that even though she did not vote for Donald Trump, she still doesn’t believe the teacher should have been allowed to carry out an event like this with students.
Here’s the full video showing a student swinging either a bat or a long stick, to which they are aiming to hit the presidents face in the center of the pinata.
