If anything at all, one’s place of worship should be a sanctuary. But sadly, a leading European rabbi believes this is increasingly no longer the case for Jewish synagogues throughout Europe.
In a conference called “Securing Jewish Communities Across Europe,” Moscow’s Chief Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, president of the Conference of European Rabbis, outlined his concerns.
“At the back of almost every Jew’s mind is the possibility of what could happen. Sadly, in Copenhagen, Brussels and in Paris, that has become a reality,” Goldschmidt said. “The Jewish community finds itself targeted from a number of directions: from the extreme right, the extreme left and Islamic terrorism.”
Not to downplay extremist right or left wing violence, because it does exist, but the three examples given, Copenhagen, Brussels, and Paris, were all instances of Islamic terrorism.
Peter Neumann, Director of the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation, said Jewish people are a “priority target” and “the first ones to be targeted.”
“If Jews are being targeted, then all citizens should be worried because there is more to come,” Neumann said. “Nobody should be lulled into a false sense of security by a period of calm. Just because the Jewish community has not been attacked in the last year, it does not mean it is not a target.”
Interestingly, Dr. Neumann is concerned, not so much about Islamic terror and unlimited Muslim immigration, but the rise of the so-called “far-right.” Because he believes that “at the core of every far-right party, there is bona fide antisemitism.”
Israeli MP Tzipi Livni told attendees, “Every Jew should be able to walk around looking Jewish and not face discrimination.”
Indeed, but isn’t it ironic that the only bulwark against the current invasion and eventual Islamization of Europe – not a good thing historically for Jews – could very well be what is considered those “extreme right” parties that are currently gaining ground?
For their own safety and security, perhaps it’s time for more Jews to follow the example of these French Jews who support Marine Le Pen’s National Front in France!
