John Podesta doesn’t know what he’s talking about, according to Attorney General Loretta Lynch.
Lynch defended the FBI’s handling of the hacked email scandal against critics supporting Hillary Clinton, who allege that the agency focused too much attention on Clinton’s private email server and not enough on alleged Russian influence on the election.
“John Podesta has been out there trashing there FBI,” CNN’s Jake Tapper told Lynch in an interview that will air Sunday on “State of the Union.”
Podesta, who was Clinton’s campaign chairman, wrote an op-ed published Friday in The Washington Post in which he said, “something is deeply broken at the FBI.”
Lynch disputed that claim.
“First of all the investigation isn’t even over,” Lynch told Tapper. “So I think it’s impossible to characterize it any one way or the other.”
She added that although she respected Podesta, he view was colored by his involvement in the campaign.
“I know also because of his involvement with the campaign, he’s going to have a certain interest in this and a certain view of that,” she said. “Everyone has a great deal of respect for him. So I allow him that opinion, but I disagree with that.”
At a later point, Lynch reminded Tapper that Podesta lacks inside knowledge of what’s being done and how the FBI’s investigation is proceeding.
“He’s not involved in the ongoing investigation so he wouldn’t be privy to everything that would have been done or said to that. But as I said, he’s entitled to his opinion,” Lynch said of Podesta, according to CNN. “I can tell you that this investigation was taken seriously from the beginning.”
But the Clinton camp didn’t buy into it. Former Clinton camp press secretary Brian lashed out at Lynch Saturday.
And people wonder why Comey feels free to ignore his “superiors” across the street at the Justice Department.https://t.co/sjgJ9cN0O6
